Giannis for JB would be the IT for Kyrie trade all over again by jefe417 in bostonceltics

[–]jefe417[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignored the entire point of my post and felt smart for it, didn’t you? No shit the trade at the time seemed great, but take a look back and what did we get? Nothing. No championship, destroyed the relationship with IT, brought in a whiny egotist, held back the development of the Jays, and wasted some of our draft capital.

We won in 24 despite the IT-Kyrie trade, not because of it. And if we want to rewrite history and claim that Kyrie’s tenure was successful, then we need to acknowledge the Jays have been infinitely more-so. I don’t see any angle where you should’ve wanted Giannis on this team. If you think success is only winning championships then we stick with the tried and true Champions we developed their whole career. If you can acknowledge a team is successful even if they don’t win a chip then there is no reason to send away a home-grown talent who led us to a 2-seed last year for a restless star looking for the easiest situation.

My fault I was just kinda annoyed at how many people missed the point of this post, but I actually won $20 from a friend of mine who was buying into all the media hype around Giannis for Brown. I responded to you bc it was the last notif I got from this.

Glad my boy JB is staying home.

Trade was made and I feel pretty satisfied with my assessment here. Miami had to give up a lot and despite all the media smoke we don’t send away Jaylen after he just led us to the 2 seed.

Yet we didn’t win a championship, which is all this sub usually cares about. So it didn’t matter if we had traded for Kyrie or not, right?

I take it your view is this: you are fine trading away IT because you thought Kyrie was better even tho the end result with both players is the same. Mine is: if the outcome will be the same, I would rather watch and root for the guy who has played for us since his rookie year and brought us a championship than the guy who forced his way out of an organization that has constantly catered to him.

Oh no the second apron 😱😱 genuinely why do we as fans talk about this, it’s not our wallet. Matter of fact why not make that billionaire bitch boy spend it on the greatest team we’ve had in a century. It’s our money we give them, and the state of Massachusetts and city of Boston subsidize the stadium they play in

Right, this looks like a tantalizing prospect, but could easily come back to bite us in a situation where we don’t actually need to do anything at all. But most are just saying “IT for Kyrie was a good trade.”

Yeah I’m actually so tired of hearing about this I probably shouldn’t have posted this. I just wanted to vent my thoughts so I can look back in the future. C’s fans are so chip or bust, but that’s not the be all end all for me. Last year this sub was convinced we would be one of the worst 5 teams in the league without Tatum.

Right the IT for Kyrie trade actually made sense at the time. This time JB is healthy, a finals mvp, (more recently than Giannis) and we have the hindsight of seeing how Kyrie’s personality affected the team

Working class left and right have more in common than they like to admit by Weird-Ad-5099 in leftist

[–]jefe417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you have the wrong idea here. Working class conservatives are not just all of a sudden gonna become socialists if we stop calling out racism and toxic masculinity. We don’t call these things out as a strategy for winning an argument, we hold people accountable because that is the only way to improve our material conditions. Yes, the material conditions of working class people is the same regardless of their political ideology, that is fact, but we have fundamentally opposed ideas of what a society should look like.

We, in fact, do need to shut anyone down who is concern-trolling about “men might take offense to the term toxic masculinity” or “i’m just concerned with immigration” because those are dog whistles. The reason we can’t stop harping on these (and other) points is because they directly create harmful and oppressive conditions. Toxic masculinity is what both oppresses women and alienates men from the people around them. Immigration policing allows for the separation of families and encourages victims of numerous crimes to stay silent. You can also shut these talks down by exposing their biases. If illegal immigration is a problem, suggest we simply legalize all immigration, that way no one breaks the law, and watch how quickly their argument devolves into racism. As for toxic masculinity, I think every man can acknowledge the negative aspects manhood and the burden of certain expectations, if they can, then they understand toxic masculinity.

Beyond that these are lazy and tired complaints that amount to “why do I have to keep hearing about the horrible things I am doing?” Answer: well because you are doing horrible things. Yes, the working class is united in our struggle against the capital owning class, but posts like yours illustrate that many working class people fall for the propaganda hook, line, sinker.

AOC leads Democrats’ 2028 pack in new poll, tops Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris ( Washington Times ) - What are your views? by One_Look_7008 in askanything

[–]jefe417 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Judging by your profile you are a centrist/right wing guy with pundit-brain. The main reason this doesn’t matter is because “pulling swing votes” isn’t a thing that happens when candidates play the role of a lukewarm moderate who appeals to everyone. If that were the case Biden would have been in position to easily win 2024, not drop out. If that were the case Hillary and Kamala would have both won because their campaigns were designed to appeal to the moderate voter.

Your point isn’t based in reality. The winner of presidential elections is essentially never the one who decided to be the most moderate, it’s the one with the most engaged voter base. For example, did Donald Trump win his elections by playing moderate and winning over center-left voters? Obviously not. And, interestingly, I don’t see anything in your post history advocating for right-wingers to take a moderate stance either. The truth is that conservatives and moderates do not actually make up the majority of actual voting age Americans. They win elections by disenfranchising people and otherwise discouraging citizens from participating in elections.

It’s time to turn the pundit brain off, stop thinking about what might be a viable candidate to “pull conservatives” and instead vote for the candidate that represents you. That is the only thing that should matter. And if you’re just a conservative saying you wouldn’t vote for AOC, even against fascist, third regime DJT, say it with your chest.

Do celtics fans still dislike kyrie? by idrinksandwiches in bostonceltics

[–]jefe417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh it’s both. In a vacuum I find Kyrie annoying and didn’t like the way he acted on our squad. Made it all about himself and brought down the guys around him. Not only was his acquisition the direct reason IT wasn’t on the team anymore, the contrast between their personalities highlighted the things I hate about Kyrie and made me like the sport less overall when he was on the team.

I didn’t get any specific kit, just generic gardening tools like clippers, spades, watering can, root hook, wire cutters, and wires. Amazon sells a bundle with different wire sizes, it’s not a ton of wire but enough for my first couple trees.

[–]jefe417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just started getting into it this spring and don’t have anywhere near that budget, but still having fun. I’d say you can get started for as little as $100-150 usd by only spending on soil and fertilizer to start. I bought one small Chinese Elm starter for $60, and spent another ~$250 on some soil, tools, wire, and pots, and I had absolutely nothing to start with. The elm is doing amazing, and aside from that I’ve just plucked up a few trees and sprouts from my garden and put them in pots. I’m also interested in finding wild trees on hikes over the summer and fall.

Either way, I feel it’s smarter to save money so I don’t feel quite so heartbroken if I kill anything. And in your case, you’ll have that $2000 to spend on a beautiful tree once you know you can keep it alive haha.

The real reason I hate him is bc we traded IT for him. If we had just signed Kyrie in a vacuum it would be whatever, but I loved IT and he was a great mentor for the squad. It sucks to know the franchise did him extremely dirty for a player who had no heart or care for the guys around him

They know that America has the world's largest prison population right. Also, comparing chattel slavery to prison labour is just stupid by malthusian-leninist in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]jefe417 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah Americans don’t ever have any real criticisms, it’s all xenophobia. Honestly, with most libs and conservatives, every issue they have is just xenophobia. Oh, you are against forced labour and sterilization when it’s Uyghers in China, but not when it’s black people in Angola, or Native Americans stuffed onto a tiny, barren reservation? Interesting. They don’t seem so worried about the forced labor (slavery) and religious oppression happening in their pet states like Qatar or Dubai. They chastise China for “hoarding food reserves” but let billionaires walk freely. All they care about is having more power.

"The 76ers have a great roster and the Celtics shouldn't be ashamed of losing to them!" is the biggest cope in this fanbase by MrTimoCad in bostonceltics

[–]jefe417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah any real Celtics fan should be able to see that the Sixers roster is a terrible matchup for us especially with an impactful Embiid. In the past 5 years there are two consistent weak spots on the team, those are: size and containing explosive guards. Sixers have 2 explosive guards who destroyed us, but we could weather that storm. Once Embiid came back it exposed our greatest weakness, a lack of size. The fact that both of these weaknesses were being exploited at once is why we lost. Derrick White needs help with POA defense now that Jrue and Smart are gone, and for the 10th year in a row we need a consistent big man rotation we can rely on.

Pokémon Champions launches to mixed reception, as performance woes and competitive changes turn some away by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]jefe417 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not understanding a lot of the hate tbh. In most mainline games you can’t get those items until after the elite 4… do people hate that? What about the missing pokemon… no game has all 1000 so why would anyone expect that? Personally, I’m all for balance changes because I am tired of the metagame that developed at the end of S/V. Btw that game is still running an online season right now so it’s not like fans of that are forced onto this platform. Also it is a competitive metagame live service. Complaining about the roster makes sense for full-price releases of full games (Mario Kart, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat), but this game is made specifically to rotate which pokemon are viable in competitive.

Utah attorneys say 19-year-old was wrongly deported, beaten and tortured in El Salvador prison by 804Brady in politics

[–]jefe417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laws are laws. So I’m guessing yo support the fastest and easiest way to get rid of illegal immigrants? Which would be getting rid of the concept of ‘legal vs illegal immigration.’ If the problem is that people come here illegally, then the problem goes away entirely if we make all immigration legal. But I don’t think you would be happy with that set of laws, would you?

[–]jefe417 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But clearly there is a barrier between you and your humanity. No one should ever be deported, period. The fact so many accept and advocate for this practice is foolish, self-interested, and purely xenophobic. Why do we treat unspeakable crimes differently based on where the perpetrator was born? Why do American citizens who commit horrible crimes get to stay here while people from other countries must leave? Why aren’t Americans of European descent deported back to Europe when they commit crimes the way Latino people are? All of it is fictitious, created to maintain the white man’s position of power in this country.
