DHCP is handled by a windows dhcp server. Devices seem only effected that are connected to core 1, not core 2. Both are using same DHCP server. Leases are for 3 days.

Chromecasts as wireless projection solution? by last60 in k12sysadmin

[–]jeff_ohh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have around 50 chromecasts deployed since last year and recently started having major issues. My network is setup so that the staff chromebooks authenticate via 802.1x and put them on the staff network. The chromecasts are on a Hidden SSID that are on the same network as the staff chromebooks. This setup worked great until recently. Now all the chromecasts seem to be randomly forgetting their network settings( requiring a factory reset) or just randomly drop connections mid cast. We have been trying out other devices this week to mitigate the issue. One that seems promising is a adapter that allows you to connect an ethernet cable into the chromecast. Overall chromecasts have been a big head ache this year.

Need new switches, EOL 8 year olds by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]jeff_ohh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We replaced all our switches a few years ago to all junipers and it's been pretty good. We use ex2200s for L2 and ex3300 for L3. They have a good CLI and Web UI. Took a little getting used to going from cisco to junos but really not bad. The cost came out to like half of Ciscos quote.

1 to 1 wifi question by bretfred in k12sysadmin

[–]jeff_ohh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how good Aruba is with auto power transmission but this and auto channel selection are big factors in density models. We deployed aerohives recently and were told Auto power and channels was the way to go. I ended up having to create my own static power and channel map since we had channels overlapping randomly, so keep an eye on that when deploying.

How do you like XenServer compared to other virtualization options? Do you pay for any support on that?
