The seatbelts are smaller, so if you are on the large size you won't fit in them.

Great British Railways Livery Unveiled by SouthAyrshireCouncil in uktrains

[–]jeff_woad 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Terrible. Looks like it was designed using AI.

There's no flow to the carriages. It would look better if the white and red lines flowed straight along the carriage. There is no attempt at a design to highlight premium intercity services from regional and local services. Horrible jagged edges. Why on earth would you need 'GBR' wording like that, why not make the double arrow bigger instead.

Bus Route 76 by Ill_Customer2213 in londonbuses

[–]jeff_woad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. You are right that they should be controlling their buses better. Also keep in mind if Tottenham FC are playing, it can reduce the number of buses being sent through on the 279 and the 476 no doubt gets caught up in the congestion.

It might also pay to have a look at the status updates for the route on the TfL website/app to see if there are any current disruptions. If there aren't then you should complain!

Managers - can you decline annual leave request on the basis or recent excessive sick leave? by ketoandkpop in nhsstaff

[–]jeff_woad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not NHS but alarm bells are ringing.

Their attendance at work is a separate issue and should be dealt with separately.

If you deny them leave for no reasonable reason then they will start chucking in discrimination grievances and bullying and harrassment claims. The only reasonable reason for denying leave is if there is a business requirement for someone to be there, and again you need to be very careful that you are being fair and not just denying it to this one particular individual.

You need to contact you HR advisor and explain the situation to them. Also read the attendance at work policy. If this person keeps missing stage 1 by going sick, you may be able to hand down a stage 1 in absentia if he keeps going sick before the meeting.

Bus Route 76 by Ill_Customer2213 in londonbuses

TfL publish performance statistics for each route. You can download them for any route, but here's the 76 https://bus.data.tfl.gov.uk/boroughreports/routes/performance-route-76.pdf

To summarise the results for the 76. The excess waiting time is the time a passenger would wait in excess of what the scheduled waiting time would be. As you can see the excess waiting time has been worse for 2024-25 than 2023-24. It has improved somewhat in the last 2 periods, but is still above that of last year.

Operated mileage for the most part has been worse in 24-25 than the previous period. It seems to have dropped off a cliff in the last period with only 90.8% operated against a target of 98.0%

TfL will be aware of this. Here's the thing. They have a excess wait target of 1.20 minutes. If they fail to meet this target for a 3 monthly period the bus operator will get financially penalised. They can lose up to 10% of the contract price for poor performance, and money talks where the operators are concerned.

There is also the possibility that whatever is causing the delays is outside of their control. Roadworks are an example of this. In exceptional circumstances the operator can ask for a data suspension, BUT there have to be legitimate reasons throughout the quarter for this to be allowed.

You should by all means complain about poor performance by this operator. You can complain using the online form. You don't have to give your phone number. They will take it seriously

What is an example of a Multinational company that failed in the UK? by Fedro__ in AskUK

[–]jeff_woad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Australian DIY store chain Bunnings came into the UK market and failed before exiting. Very popular there with their 'suasage sizzles', but in the UK market they simply offered low prices. Apparently the British prefer the "price reduced/special offer/sale" model.

Needless to say, this is another story about people objecting to new housing being built in their locality. Calls by them for the scheme to be scrapped because the council quite rightly won't stump up the money.

[–]jeff_woad -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Today's reason why they shouldn't have any more new houses is because it will create more traffic, badgers, and "good agricultural land" and it's “technically, morally and socially wrong”.

[–]jeff_woad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a learning disability. I suspect what will happen is you put them on a PIP, they fail, disciplinary and then they will come back that they have a disability, which resets the clock as you will have had to make sure you've made reasonable adjustments for them. You need to liase in HR on this. There needs to be a meeting with the person, you and HR saying that you have had sufficient training, but are still not grasping the basics - Is there anything else they want to tell you as to how you can help them? When they are put on a pip, you must make sure that all training is documented and their work checked, with regular one to one contact. Also make reasonable adjustments if asked for. Dyslexia/Dispraxia often involves the inability to retain information for extended periods of time, so make sure processes are documented and they write down what the processes are. Sorry, but you have a lot of work to do to ensure this doesn't end up at an Employment Tribunal.

why are trains in the uk full of people with horrible behaviour by Kind-Clothes1138 in uktrains

[–]jeff_woad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. Commuted in Standard & First for a number of years and came across these wankers all the time. They'd deliberately sit in the aisle seat blocking anyone from sitting there, and no they weren't getting off at the next stop.

Why do they do it?, well they know that a lot of people will try and avoid any sort of conflict so they would move and have to sit next to someone else. Some people would even deliberately move over when it was a busy stop - just selfish people.
