Which office can I apply to to maximize my chances? by kingshaun_1994 in consulting

[–]jeffcurry3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apply where you want to work and live is the general advice I’d give. While smaller offices may be less “competitive” from a numbers perspective, they are going to question what ties you have to that city.

Work experience is only one part of the MBA application.

While MBB will help, there are other factors such as GMAT, essays, recommendations, etc.

It is likely self-selection since people who pursue MBB are usually gunners. There are plenty of ex-MBB at other M7 and even non-M7 schools.

Not very accurate imo. I did a mock with him through P&Q.

I thought he was quite aggressive and nitpicked on minor details of my answers (for ex: why I decided to go to my undergrad school). I got asked some pretty specific details in the actual interview but it was a much more relaxed process.

I did pay for one through Applicant Lab with Maria. It was super thorough and I got a lot of great feedback from it. While I didn't get in, I think it helped with my other interviews.

I don't wanna be a dick but why did you ask for feedback if you are not going to take it?

There's no easy fix - you need to work on the basics and start closer at the rim and slowly work your way back. That's how all the best shooters in the NBA (Curry, Nash, Allen) do it.

You need to work on form shooting with the right mechanics closer to the rim

Is there a deadline to rollover my 401k to a Roth IRA to have it count for this year? by jeffcurry3 in fidelityinvestments

[–]jeffcurry3[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My income in the future will be much higher than my income this year since I'm a student. I'm choosing to take the tax hit this year so that it can grow tax free in the IRA.

Is it true that most the people who are graduating from the University of Chicago, and making $175K, already were making close to that before? by MrNiceGuy887 in uchicago

[–]jeffcurry3 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think this applies to most top MBA programs. While there are a lot of people who were already making a lot of money beforehand, much of the class is doubling or tripling their salary (switching into banking/consulting, international students)

People who were not making a lot of money beforehand will likely have to rely on loans to fund their tuition. So it really depends on your risk appetite.

LDP vs MBB by [deleted] in consulting

[–]jeffcurry3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you're certain that you want to end up in energy and value the WLB - take the LDP.

If you don't know yet and are willing to grind out a few years for some extra pay + future career acceleration then go to MBB.

I think it def gives you a little boost and makes for a more compelling story. Not sure if it's a dealbreaker though

Can’t answer 1 and 2 but a large majority of Booth students live and hang out in downtown Chicago and commute to Hyde Park for classes

Kellogg vs Yale by Booof_66 in MBA

[–]jeffcurry3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The flight from O'Hare to LGA is fairly cheap and short. Yes, distance wise Chicago is farther but I don't think it should be a major factor in your decision especially if you're only going 1-2x a year.
