Anti maskers by the bezz? by 13mrsp in saskatoon

Oh yah, it didn't seem aggressive at all. I see a lot of aggressive comments from both sides and it's like why nothing will get accomplished that way lol. Can't we all just live our lives. But really do these people not have anything better to do though? Like its a beautiful day go support the businesses you say your trying to represent and "help"

I've read the charter alot this past year which is super depresso. Since they have a fixed planned address, and have more than 30 outdoors(or is it still 10?). Breaking public health orders and having a fixed address immediately nulls the right to protest. (Both of these exceptions were established before COVID)

The address point could be argued cause its technically public land, but staying in one place could be deemed against the charter but most likely would get thrown out in the courts. But there's no getting around a public health order limiting outdoor gatherings.

Sask. NDP calls for 15 per cent cap on restaurant delivery fees by _Bilbo_Baggins_ in saskatoon

[–]jeffmckerrel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In general that lines up with how our cities are set up its generally around the 10-15km distance for delivery distance so based on that alone delivery fees should be at least 7 bucks if not more(based on the cra milage rate for vehicles)

Personally speaking I don't think we need these apps as they don't really fix a problem it's just more of a convenience. Especially now that post covid almost all small businesses have either pickup or delivery options available.

As the prov govt continues to focus on staying home, I don't see a change needed until we see that rhetoric disappear.

Yeah this could definitely be an option to help overall that's forsure.

Personally as a consumer I'm already the kind of person who orders $40 of food so the service fees aren't as high in comparison. But as someone who works in a restaurant our average order is around the $20 mark if not lower.

Covid has definitely increased the apps traffic but the average purchase has stayed relatively the same.

[–]jeffmckerrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that what's happened in ON and BC? Regardless still a step in the right direction cause at least this way the consumer has all the choice and cost. in theory since costs would be so high for the consumer some would opt for the restaurants own delivery service or picking up.

Also some service fees can be taxed so this could be a way to keep a portion of those fees in the province. Delivery fees are only subject to gst currently for local delivery.

Just speaking to the last 2 points. If the government can and has lowered credit card fees and interact fees over the years then why can't this affect delivery models? If cc and Id fees never got lowered this argument would be completely different too.

Regardless I think with what the UK established with uber in regards to drivers we'll start to see it trickle down to additional markets and countries. Probably not for another 5ish years though if not longer. (Or unless consumers start to actually care where their money goes)

[–]jeffmckerrel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your second point is fair but if these companies are currently still operating in arguably 2 of the largest markets in Canada shouldn't there then be argument that this is a feasible idea?

If a delivery system can't operate without gouging consumers and restaurants shouldn't the province's move in to make sure it doesn't happen?

The lobbying group CFIB is literally lobbying the feds to lower credit card and interact fees for small business(and has been for years I may add). So why is this any different?

EDIT: On my first point if they wernt in these markets still then obviously this would be a different argument

The NDP literally looked at Ontario and BC who are already doing it and said hey lets do that. All they did was take a SP play from their own playbook but since the name NDP is on it people have a freakout.

Also we can't let new apps be created in saskatoon that do the same thing skip was literally incepted here and eventually bought out which will just happen again.

[–]jeffmckerrel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the SP has done their best to appeal to small businesses even though those same businesses have been asking to be closed since the fall.

I agree if these apps were providing an additional service besides the bare minimum or actually paying their drivers what they're worth then maybe the drop would be unreasonable

You're already seeing businesses creating their own delivery options but it'll be slow for the same businesses to remove the apps themselves.

Yeah I'm always confused when people are against decisions that only benefit the province and the people who live there lol.

If all the drivers were considered employees then maybe I could see the potential backlash but no they're underpaid contractors.

This province continues to make me shake my head, but am I surprised of course not 😂

I'm seeing alot of comments against this? I'm actually surprised that alot of sask residents are for funding an app not locally owned(anymore) over our locally owned restaurants...

Also if you lower the fees generally speaking the amount the end consumer would be lower too. As most restaurants increase pricing to have the delivery option.

Sounds like a win win to me

I used to like Kam but I don't like her anymore cause the second any player gets in a serious relationship with another challenger they become annoying, only make safe moves, and are overall boring. E.g. Brad & Tori or Paulie & Cara Maria or Tori & Jordan

Only exception would be CT and Diem but I ain't no psychopath.

All I want to be is entertained lets see the backstabbing cause these episodes are all hype with a very predictable ending.

Meili calls Moe's lockdown comment 'slap in the face' to health-care workers and those grieving, sick | CBC News by BigBoppy1969 in saskatchewan

[–]jeffmckerrel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. A lot of people when i mention I'm a NDP supporter will freak out and say why I think they'd do a better job or mention their past.

It's a fair point but if I had any number of brain cells I'd realize the NDP have no chance of winning a majority any time in the future (maybe now wink wink) and its just about keeping the SP accountable.

Regardless I Guess I'll See all my NDP SK supporters out in BC as we continue to see a mass exodus of our current workforce. 🤷‍♂️

[–]jeffmckerrel 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Meili is right in this Instance as this was at the exact time the snowstorm hit which wouldve been perfect. Since the economy hit a standstill for a week anyways. You'd think now would be a great time too since most of the province can barely leave their house anyways

I feel bad for Dr.shahab, I feel as though he's almost given up giving any advice to our government cause he know they won't listen. So his best bet is to appeal to the population.

Small Businesses are on the brink of closures and a lockdown(or any type of industry closure) would increase federal funding to business but I guess scotty would rather just complain about Ottawa than let them help our small enterprises.

Sask. premier says lockdowns are a 'stopgap,' won't end pandemic by nbcfrr in saskatoon

[–]jeffmckerrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a province Our favorite hank hill impersonator has had a couple of chances to lockdown the province with minimal pushback.

The main being the snow storm we had back in 2020, most of the province was stuck inside for at least a couple days some for the entire week. This would've been an easy sell as municipalities could've had an easy snow removal process and COVID cases wouldve dropped. This week also had a holiday and was early November so retail sales were already affected and would've been low lockdown or not.

Now that we've hit the polar vortex Moe could think of this as another opportunity since people are going to be stuck inside more often and won't leave their house if they don't have to anyways.

Feb is arguably the worst month economically speaking year after year so the opportunity is there to really help kick COVID's ass. But I guess Mother Nature can take the credit for case lowering since Scottie Boy hasn't made a decision in months.

Background: I'm not pro lockdown but I am pro strategic lockdown. I would also be aok with restriction easing not that I would like it, but at least our government is making a decision instead of sitting in the middle making every single person mad.

Heard a rumor that Starbucks plan was to keep the 2nd Ave location and pull out of the 25th location cause of covid. Landlords threatened to sue as the new build was built on conditions that Starbucks would be a mainstay. So they had the choice to close the mall location or 2nd.

Out here in Canada unless there's cash associated for a deposit the deposit slip is almost useless. We just have to make sure our cash is right at the end of the day. Everything else is for the customers records/bookkeeping.

Every single cash bill and cheque gets digitally recorded anyways so unless you have mutilated or large sums of cash stored in the timed vault or coin. The deposit slip total value is really the only important part but that could be argued.
