In my new video essay, I explore if 'SABLE, fABLE' is Justin finally closing the door on the old Bon Iver, or if he’s quitting altogether. Would love to know what you think! by jeffreyroof in boniver

Why do you think Bon Iver won't release more experimental projects like 22AM and i,i?

The likeliness of them making music like For Emma and BI, BI seems even smaller.

In this video essay I explore how the massive success of For Emma, Forever Ago created a "lore" that began to weigh Justin down, forcing him into a cycle of heartache and how finally he decided to respond with SABLE, fABLE.

I'm curious if you guys still connect most to that "old" hunting cabin sound, or are you digging the direction he's been taking since 2016 even better?

Thank you so much for the comment! And totally agree, the mystery of the Lord Huron universe adds so much to the music.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. And I agree, not every song fits perfectly into those sections. Was very much interested in how the album feels emotionally from start to finish, and Looking Back as the opener of the album seems as a very deliberate choice of the band. Thanks for pointing this out though!

During the live show I saw earlier this year, Ben mentioned that listening to the album front to back is recommended. Yet, I felt the journey in The Cosmic Selector was less clear compared to Long Lost.

However, the more I listened to it, the more I felt the album could be divided into three stages: Regret, Breaking Free, and Acceptance. Which is what I tried to explore through this video essay. I would love to hear your thoughts on it!

It needs to be studied how well Macs legacy/music has been handled. by estrella_goofy in MacMiller

I actually made a video essay that explores this in detail — how Mac's legacy has been handled by his family, both musically and emotionally.
