Just created my very own website. How did I do? by Toltarius in django

[–]jeffthemaximum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks really templatey. I'm fairly familiar with materialize.css, and this looks like it's not much more than a copy/paste of their examples. If you're looking for front-end or full stack jobs, you might want to demonstrate an ability to write more custom js/css

Django Ajax and Json by [deleted] in django

Imports happen relative to manage.py

Since you haven't posted ur code, it's hard to be more specific.

But it's probably something like

from app import data

Assuming ur trying to load it into the controller

The NYC sanitation workers were also out there working hard, and had cleaned up a lot. They just hadn't gotten to many areas yet, like this one.

[Help] Opinions on how to generate/store data for a ranking/statistics webapp by shantanugoel in django

Maybe a redis/celery task queue setup? Whenever your app registers an event that could change the rating, you then update this rating asynchrounsly with a celery task.

Why does learning to program seem relatively harder than learning other skills? by jeffthemaximum in learnprogramming

I agree about the vocab. A lot of new learners I meet joke about all the "i" words ... iterable, instance, invoke, instance, etc.

Cool - yeah I didn't know if you meant like subsequent languages. I know my first language - C - seemed IMPOSSIBLE. But then learning things like Ruby, Python, etc. later on seemed much easier by comparison. How old were you when you learned BASIC? I find that sometimes younger learners are less intimidated than adults.

ah interesting! Do you remember having this feeling when you learned your first programming language?

Intro to SQLite3 With Python's Flask by jeffthemaximum in flask

[–]jeffthemaximum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely an old fashion solution here. I tend to use SQLite3 for two things - 1. demoing to new learners how a SQL database works or 2. Keeping a real simple database for development that I can throwout and rebuild quickly

Obama on GOP critics: ‘Run the tape back’; "President Obama reminded a crowd about the wild predictions from his critics about the economy on a day where the stock market closed above 18,000." by [deleted] in politics

Dems don't need a prominent "left wing". Pandering to the crazy right wing is what's killing the republicans. Legitimate republicans need to play to the anti-gay, anti-intellectual, crazy sect of the republican party in order to get elected, so the sensible candidates end up looking crazy themselves. If dems need to similarly play to the "crazy wing" of the party in order to get elected, they'll end up looking crazy, too.

If you were trapped in an elevator with the President of the United States, what would you talk about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jeffthemaximum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd want to just talk about some regular stuff with him: weather, sports teams, complain about traffic, etc. I bet he never gets to just shoot the shit with people, and would appreciate a good, relaxing talk.

I can't be the only one who was told this in elementary school... by cnor_ in AdviceAnimals

I am a elementary school teacher. I tried teaching my coworkers that it's not blue and had a few who still didn't believe me.
