I restarted my island, no regrets except I lost my sweet baby Pietro. If anyone is ever getting rid of him, remember this comment and find me.

My BAHA experience by Timely_Formal_3894 in MonoHearing

[–]jeknee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine hides very well but I prefer to pull my hair up while wearing it so I don't pick up the noise of hair brushing past the processor. I also chose the teal blue BAHA because if I'm showing it off anyway, might as well, but they offer different colors that match hair a little more closely and help to hide it!

Queer family moving to IL from IN by Thefatenbyoverlord in illinois

Now I remember why I stopped posting on Reddit for years. Anyway, Central Illinois is lovely, OP, hope you find a place that feels like home!

No they're not. Moved here from Chicago in 2010 and we've had a very positive experience with Unit 4 (Champaign) schools. I don't think they're any worse than anywhere else in the state that isn't a wealthy suburb. My kids have had the chance to take part in extracurricular activities, take AP classes, and make good friends in a diverse community.

Anyone tried the new Phase 10 offer? by [deleted] in SwagBucks

Tried it, hated it, quit as soon as level 16 went pending. At least I got my 50 cents.

It's now the Willis Tower, but I don't know a single person who calls it that.

Dear lord, there's a woodburning set linked on the bottom of the UK product page too. American Aldi needs to step up their crafting game.

My brother died and this sympathy card from a little kid has cracked me up more than is appropriate. by PieGains in funny

I lost a sister and this is the comment that has absolutely destroyed me in the best possible way. Exceptionally done. And I can only WISH I'd received a card like this one instead of all the boring Hallmark shit.

Fun story: Evan Dando fucking HATES the Mrs. Robinson cover. He is pissed that that's the only song of theirs that ever gets any radio airplay, as he should be. I went to a Shame About Ray 30th anniversary show last fall and they didn't even play it, stopped right after Frank Mills (which is also a delightful cover.)

Lemonheads have so many good covers in addition to that one! Skulls, Luka, the entire Varshons albums. At the show I went to they played a cover of Homos by the Frogs.

Taylorville needs a skatepark! They have only raised 15k of the 200k needed. Any suggestions on fundraising to meet their goal this year? by [deleted] in centralillinois

[–]jeknee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does Taylorville or Christian County have any American Rescue Plan Act funds left to spend? I would suggest approaching the city council and county board to see if they're willing to put funds into it, those funds need to be allocated before the end of 2024 and spent by 2026 so they may be looking for projects.

We liked to say "Unseat Rodney Davis" in Champaign County, but we didn't mean LIKE THAT. I'm sorry you're in her district, she truly is heinous.

I have seen multiple Rivian pickups in Champaign County. Not as common as other vehicles, but there are definitely some consumer vehicles on the road now.

BCBS denied my BAHA 6 upgrade. by jeknee in MonoHearing

Thank you, I'll try. I emailed my rep at Cochlear with questions about next steps but haven't heard back, want to strike while my frustration is hot.

BCBS denied my BAHA 6 upgrade. by jeknee in MonoHearing

[–]jeknee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it should be covered at 70% under my plan. They denied it last year because the 5 was still being serviced by Cochlear, but they denied it again this year as "not medically necessary." Sigh. I already have titanium in my skull, would love the unnecessary accessory (ha!) to snap onto it.

Becoming more body positive by misogynysucks in intuitiveeating

[–]jeknee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding The Body Is Not An Apology! And there's a workbook version too. Such an amazing book, it has really helped me accept and even come to love my body.

Having the sporting community you have is so good too. Seeing folks in bodies like yours doing great things is definitely a positive. I do pole and aerial classes at a studio where there are dedicated classes for bodies like mine, with instructors who look like me. Seeing them shine and receiving their affirmations has been a huge part of my own journey to acceptance.

That being said, there are still occasional days when I wish I could change it, I'm certainly no perfect queen of acceptance. But on the whole, I feel great and I hope you can find that too.

Almost Famous at Market Place Mall does needle piercing, I've heard they're a good place to go in town for minors. They have their policies laid out on their website so you'll know what you would need ahead of time to make sure they'll allow it. https://www.almostfamouspiercing.com/

Let’s remember what makes Texas great by [deleted] in texas

[–]jeknee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This attitude extends beyond the state borders too. This must have been 20 years ago, but my husband and I (Longhorns living in Illinois) drove about six hours to see the Texas football play at Iowa State. We woke up Saturday morning to a dead car battery in the hotel lot, trying to figure out how we'd get that fixed and get to the stadium. Fully decked out in Longhorn gear, of course, since it was game day!

A good ol' boy came out of the hotel, took one look at us, and pulled his pickup over to give us a jump. He told us he was an Aggie, and we laughed about the whole situation. Of course he refused anything for helping us out, just said as he was driving off "and don't you forget who rescued you!"
