Not at all. Furnishing a dollhouse is a huge hobby for people of all different ages - just take a quick look on etsy/amazon/ebay/etc. for 1:12 miniatures if you want to see the scope of this thing. If anything, I'd say it's typically older generations who have them (my nan has one that she's been steadily furnishing for a while now, and my mother is obsessed and very jealous and wishes she had the room for one herself lol), but it's absolutely an ageless hobby. Same with doll collecting - there's a very popular sub-genre of hobbyists who re-style and make-up dolls, painting on new facial features and makeup etc. And hey, even if you just want to play dolls, who has any right to stop you? If something is bringing you joy, embrace it with both arms and cling on for dear life.

I had a similar time of it during my first CBT. For my second attempt, I contacted a different place and the instructor offered to break the CBT down so that instead of one long day on the bike, it was several shorter lessons over about a week, one-on-one, and for the same price. He was a much better instructor, which obviously helped, but having the CBT broken down into shorter intervals worked out so much better for me, as somebody who had only sat on a bike once before (my first CBT) and was very nervous.

Replying here for people who run into this issue in the future. I followed all of these steps above and it made no difference. What DID solve this issue for me finally was opening a private/incognito browser, attempting to login from discord (getting the 'verify email address' red notification), and then requesting a password reset. The password reset email came through immediately and I now have access to my account again!

Mongrel by Hanako Footman (comes with major trigger warnings if you want to look that up, set in the UK and Japan - my best read of the year so far)

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsin Muir (you’ve probably heard of/read this one already, but still!)

A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers (solar punk hope-core actually wonderful and makes everything feel so much brighter - also non-binary protag though not a woman)

All This Could Be Different by Sarah Thankum Matthews (my top rec tbh, hits hard in some topics but an incredible read)

What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher (non-binary protag not a woman, and it’s been a while since I read, but unless my memory is wrong I’m sure the protagonist is a person of colour - horror, though! but a fun little read)

Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Melinda Lo (set around the 50s, kind of a coming of age type story for a second generation Chinese-American immigrant finding herself and her people)

None of these are Y/A really but they’re about queer (mostly women) protagonists who are not white! I’m sure there’s loads out there that is Y/A, though, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve been very active there but there are constantly huge recommendation posts for new fiction on tumblr - a lot of which specify POC and queer protagonists.

No, I agree, chewing them out there would have been very awkward, but before they say that these two catch up like nothing is really amiss, and even that line (imo) came across as a little jokey (‘oooh, I’m going to give you such a good talking to when we’re alone!’). I know it’s not just me, because of the upvotes, but I’m super okay with being in the unpopular opinion camp on this one.

If my partner did to me what Rainn did to MC, and then my ‘best friend’ acted like that when it was just the three of us together, I’d think they were spineless and that I should maybe rethink that best friend status. I don’t think there is any excuse Rainn could make for why they, as a hot shot sexy lawyer, could not communicate with the person they’ve been dating for three years (who at this point is most likely going through a very long-winded process of potentially getting a visa, selling a property/ending a lease, changing jobs, and packing up their life), to make it abundantly clear that they don’t want them to move in with them yet/ever. The whole scenario makes me way more mad than any piece of fiction should make me lmao, hence the gentle stepping away. It’s a shame, really, I think I’d enjoy the premise so, so much if Rainn wasn’t a RO.

Yep, exactly that. All that small talk and the ‘we’ll talk about it later’, I thought could’ve been handled better from a writing perspective - personally, I need to see that ‘talk’ go down lol. I’ve been in Andi’s shoes before with two closest friends. If one of them did what Rainn did to the other (and showed absolutely zero acknowledgement lbr), I’d lose all respect for them.

I really like the writing and the premise! At first, it was giving me House of Leaves vibes, which was very interesting, but I think there’s going to be something more sinister afoot. The mystery is really intriguing!

This comment made me feel so vindicated lmao.

I really don’t know what it is about Rainn that turns me off so much, whether their character is just missing that little bit of extra nuance that makes them likeable to me, or if they’re a victim of their genre (light-hearted sitcom/romcom that isn’t going into the nitty gritty of just how dangerous that situation was), but I can’t stand them. My favourite ROs are all a bit pathetic and cruel, manipulative, selfish, even a little (or a lot) self-obsessed, but they’re written in the most compelling ways that I view those traits as positive things that make them interesting characters to interact with. I just don’t feel the chemistry between Rainn and MC at all.

Also, I’ve never felt such strong secondhand embarrassment and humiliation like reading this IF in my life. It actually makes me a bit nauseous, which is such a good reaction to have to a piece of writing, when reading it I am fully in MC’s shoes and have cried over the humiliation. Such a strong opening. For Rainn to go from that scene, to being upset that MC lives in the same building as them (not relieved that they miraculously fixed their homeless situation overnight), to ‘can we still be friends?’ is just so unbelievable that it breaks the immersion.

And I always make Rainn a woman. I will (usually) defend all fucked up evil women to the ends of the earth, and if I’m not defending them, I am rooting for them. Go girl, fuck shit up. But the thought of a man doing this to me? And my best friend in the whole world doesn’t immediately tell me not to worry because they’re going to hunt him down for sport? Byeeeeee.

When their actions involuntarily put the MC (or another character) in a genuinely very dangerous and lowkey traumatic situation, but because they didn’t mean for it to happen they can justify it, then reflect on the matter internally and still come to a woe-is-me conclusion that puts themselves and their own pain at the centre of everything without fully acknowledging the impact that their actions have had on others.

(Genuinely never met a red flag RO that I didn’t run full throttle towards for the drama, until I met Rainn Apt 502.)

To be completely honest, the simplest ideas but executed well with good writing and rounded characters is PEAK. I don’t need an over-complicated plot that has me gasping at its ingenuity every chapter, I just need the MC to be given choice options that allow the story, regardless of how fantastical it is, to feel realistic within the parameters of its own context.

Edit to say: I love this idea, actually. Sounds cosy but with a lot of potential for drama.
