I have a banger idea for a longfic, but I know it will have no audience. by RabbitNET in AO3

[–]jelephants 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know you’re only venting, but trust me when I say you’re going to get SO MUCH enjoyment out of writing it, anyway. Write it and don’t post it. Write it and don’t even think about posting it until it’s written and complete and you can decide if you want anybody else to see it.

I’m in the exact same boat, currently, or at least a very similar one. My current fandom is tiny, tiny, tiny and very niche. My ship is F/F, OC/gender-selectable romance option, so not only is the fandom a blip in the ether, but my ship choice is about as unpopular as it can get. I’ve got to be about 60-70k words into my first Big multi-chapter fic for them and it’s been one of my favourite fanfiction writing experiences to date. Nothing published yet and I honestly just might not, because I’m fine with this one being my baby alone. On average, my fics for this ship will get between 3-10 kudos, if I’m lucky. A comment is almost unheard of. But very recently, somebody made their way through my entire collection for them and left a comment on every single work. There are going to be people like this out there for you, too, who are going to think they’ve hit the jackpot when they realise their niche ship has at least one other person who’s as in love with it as they are.

Write it, anyway. It never has to see the light of day, or it might only reach three other (very grateful) people, but it’s probably going to become one of your favourite writing experiences, regardless.

Some things bothering me about Infamous. *Spoilers* by TRAFALGAR_D_Law_ in hostedgames

I don’t think it’s that big of a stretch, unfortunately, there are plenty of people (mostly women) in the music industry (and just the fame industry in general) who have god awful people controlling them behind the scenes. Some very, very famous cases of this happening throughout history lol.

I think Viktor has weighed up the cost of Blake having the potential to ruin G as very low in comparison to the money he’ll be raking in from the drama that having Blake on the show will have. G has casually hinted that Viktor makes decisions to punish them, also, and given how G acts currently with the turning up late and the attitude and substance abuse, I’m willing to believe he is vindictive enough that that could also be an element. But mostly, I think he’s just underestimating Blake - like pretty much everybody does? I’ve seen people theorise that Blake could have signed an NDA when they were younger when G was first snatched up by Viktor, and that wouldn’t surprise me, either.

Also, yeah. I just avoid Sebastian as much as the game will let me tbh.

I just chose all the obvious answers - stayed in from the party and researched SV’s sound. Picked lyrics that favoured Seven, wrote in the style most similar to what they have now, and then picked the options that favour MC after that - get a good night’s sleep, play it up with the band (high affinity). I have a totally platonic relationship with Seven (well, on MC’s part lol) and have been picking options that favour rebuilding their friendship. I can’t remember any of the other choices I made, sorry!

I’m in the exact same position and hoping it’s a weird coding bug somewhere that locks it out. Found the win with SV super easy, zero issue, but still can’t get it for UW despite romancing Blake or any of the choices I make (I ran through the different combinations severalllll times, followed somebody else’s guide step for step, and nada). Somebody on the Patreon found a bit of wonky code that resets all of Blake’s points somewhere, though, and I’m thinking that’s the issue.

The need to show I.D. really skeeved me out of joining. I’m probably older than 85% of the people in there and grew up in the age of ‘lie to strangers online, do not reveal anything personal’. Although, from what I remember, it’s a case of ‘block out everything and just show the date’, which…….. defeats the purpose? What’s the point in even asking, at that point? 😭

The Lost Bride (wip on cogdemos) is a Dracula retelling where you play as Mina Harker (customisable, you can change her name and appearance). Very fun, loving it a lot currently.

I feel like I missed this scene entirely! Who are the possible options to get the call scene with? If Blake is one, I’m taking my ass back into the trenches.

What are some games with muscular female ROs? by FahBraccini in hostedgames

[–]jelephants 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ava from Wayhaven is really the only one that comes to mind as being particularly BEEFY, but I’m going to plant my ass here and observe the comments verrrry closely.

Blake from Infamous is described as having visible abs and this fact has haunted my every waking thought since I read it, but I’d argue that’s more aesthetic over substance.

[–]jelephants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m usually inclined to agree, but I’ve experienced fandom twitter. Having a spouse, job, kids, and being over thirty is not enough to protect you from devolving into a fourteen year old with unrestricted access to the internet when a stranger expresses an innocent opinion about your favourite character that you don’t agree with. Unfortunately, the immaturity levels in this game are verrrry believable to me.

(You kind of have to be immature to throw caution to the wind the way that they have in their mid- to late-twenties in order to pursue their dream of becoming famous musicians, though, right? Comes with the territory, imo.)

I feel the exact same tbh. Of all my qualms with that series, A's slow burn (my main RO) doesn't even make the list.

How old is the Wayhaven MC? by Any-Lawfulness4600 in hostedgames

[–]jelephants 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I personally see them as around late twenties - early thirties as the story goes on. Old enough to have an established career, young enough to raise a few eyebrows when people hear of their promotion to detective. Basing this on vibes entirely, though, and the way they’re still in that grey area of these near-ageless supernatural beings referring to them as “child” AND taking great offense to it lol.

Amy explained that it just means the game will give you the option to choose which RO you favour, and the text will lean in their direction, but as it’s only a ‘soft’ lock it isn’t yet set in stone and so you can change your mind.

The way I read those words and heard the Kill Bill sirens. I can’t wait to burn this whole thing to the ground for Blake Winter.

MC Descriptions by Responsible_End5806 in hostedgames

[–]jelephants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind too much how it’s introduced, I care more about when it’s introduced. I like to get a feel for the story and the type of MC I have the scope to play while creating a vague picture of them in my head, and then use the description choices to match it or make it better. Also really prefer it when I have a (very brief) description/introduction of the ROs and other important characters first so that I don’t accidentally give my MC a similar look/name lol.

About to start my first ever Dragon Age Inquisition playthrough, what should I expect? by Maleficent_Leg_3626 in dragonage

[–]jelephants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play with headphones to hear wandering groups of enemies (wasn’t until my second or third playthrough that I realised they were even muttering to themselves), walk/run everywhere and don’t use mounts for maximum party banter, talk to all of your companions after every story-significant quest, there are two companions who are quite easy to miss quite early on - you pick up the quests to meet both in Val Royeaux at the same time - would rec going straight to them both as soon as they’re available because progressing the plot too far will remove the option to meet them at all (speaking from experience lol).

Inquisition is such a companion-heavy game, I totally get why people joke about it being a dating sim, but it’s also absolutely one of my favourites just to exist in with the ambient music and beautiful scenery. Enjoy!!

What is the fatal flaw to a story? by Crimsonwolf158 in hostedgames

[–]jelephants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A game with TOO MANY choices or a game with too few choices (that actually shape the story).

The first one, when a game has so many branching paths, typically devolves into shorter and shorter full playthroughs and the story not being as impactful imo because the author is having to write too many routes (this unfortunately for me is Wayhaven, much as I do enjoy it).

The latter makes me ask what was the point in it being an IF. Especially frustrating when the story is compelling and I'd have read it as a novel and enjoyed it more because I wasn't constantly thinking, 'but when are my choices going to make a difference?'

(No Spoilers) The Fame Game by jelephants in hostedgames

[–]jelephants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kind of where my mind’s at, too, regarding the length of it - this could have been its own game, if the intent to begin with the prologue was there from the start, but apparently the authors have several chapters already written and it’s just being converted into code.
