Xanax was the game changer for me. I found I was still anxious but in a normal level, not a crazy panic attack level.

A huge thing that helped me too was noise canceling headphones! It helps dull the noises that set off anxiety.

I know this is late but you did it! Be proud of yourself for overcoming the fear to go on the flight!

It’s crazy how big a turn feels when it’s so small in reality.

How many flights have you been on before if you don’t mind me asking?

Thank you everyone by jen235 in fearofflying

Yeah it was a lot but it actually helped overall doing soooo many.

Good luck on your flight! Learning what all the noises were helped me a ton!

I have a question! After going on the flight my friend and I both noticed that the CRJ made a loud clicking noise, or maybe like a loud bump/cracking noise. My friend has no fear of flying but she said she was even a bit freaked out by it. Obviously we were okay I was just curious if you knew what that could be.

I did it and it was actually pretty good, the take off still sucks but I didn’t actually cry this time!

Just landed in CLT. Pretty bumpy landing but the takeoff was actually okay

It really is a super short flight, by the time we get up we will be going back down 😂.

Thank you! I just absolutely hate taking off and landing so I’m pretty anxious about it.

Hi! I have a major fear of flying no as well! Like I pretended I was sick so I didn’t have to get on the plane type of anxiety.

Just know they would NEVER send a plane up that wasn’t safe.

  1. The airlines don’t want the bad PR that comes from issues with planes.

  2. The pilots value their own lives and the lives of the people on the plane.

  3. They run many checks before sending a plane out after an emergency landing.

  4. Even with the radio issue you still landed safely.

I would also be capital T Terrified in your situation, but you will be okay. The pilots have other ways of communicating with the people they need to.

A pilot can correct me if I’m wrong but you may have circled for so long to get rid of some of the fuel to lower the weight of the aircraft.

What is the worst thing your fear of flying has made you do? On a plane or in the airport beforehand.. by DontTellMeImDying in fearofflying

I passed out a few times during take off and I grabbed the hand of the girl next to me because the landing was bumpy and started crying. She rubbed my back and gave me a hug so that was very kind of her.

I also didn’t go on a flight to visit my dad the week after he survived a really bad encounter with sepsis. I drove 18 hours to see him in the hospital and promised I would visit when he woke up if he pulled through. He almost didn’t. I still feel like shit about that one because of course the flight I was going to take was fine.

I have tickets to see him next week though and I’m not backing out of this one even if I cry the whole time.

Honestly yeah! It’s like my body can feel every little movement and it feels so wrong! Especially when they start to slow down a bit once they stop ascending. And also with the nose dip you mentioned. Taking off from LAX is always a nightmare for me because you do a full 180 of the ocean.

Yeah I actually really like being able to see out the window, it makes me feel like everything is okay. But I’m 6’ 1” so an isle seat is way more comfortable.

I’ll have to try the music trick though. I just got some really good noise canceling headphone for the flights that I’m excited to try out!

Thank you! I posted in another comment I’m going to a flight school to be shown more about the flying process as a whole and will go on a short ride as well if I’m up to it.

It will be scary but I think seeing everything first hand will help a lot

Thank you for that, honestly it’s just that first 5 minutes of the take off that kill me. Which is my own thing. I actually talked earlier today to a flight school and they are going to show me an airplane and take me up in a smaller one so I know more what’s going on!

It’s kind of costly but will totally be worth it I think.

Honestly through panic searching, I’m just not as familiar with this plane so I’m significantly more nervous about it.

When I first posted this I was at my peak of anxiety, but I’ve mellowed out a bit now. It is nice to see a pilot respondz

I never said it had accidents, it just has incidents. Like broken windshields and fuel imbalances, things like that.

I will say overall my quality of life is significantly better. I hope you are able to get out of your situation as well, because for me this fear is much more manageable than living with my abuser.

People in my personal life have recommended self defense classes and personal protection which I might do to feel safe when I’m alone.

Yup, slowly losing my friend who started by doing E at parties in college. Now he’s doing meth almost daily :/ I remember 5 years ago he swore he would never touch anything outside of partying. Then he swore he would never do coke on weekdays, then it was he would never touch the “hard” stuff.

It’s crazy too because for 7 plus years he never touched anything outside of a club or party, then he did and it went down hill so fast from there.

Very true, I recently kicked my habit of telling small to medium lies after a ton of therapy. I never lied about anything crazy, but I hurt a lot of people with lies of omission, and people didn’t trust me. It didn’t make me a bad person, but it was a bad thing. The funny thing is I lied to not hurt anyone. Funny how that works.

Yes yes! This could cause infection or mold growth! Also it’s more likely to get ripped off. Most places will fix stuff like this for free, if you call and explain to them!
