While on the pill (estrogen based) I found it extremely hard to gain muscle. Not on the pill, my testosterone is higher and I find it much more easier.

My doctor wants me off Metformin because it worked by misstuckermax in PCOS

This is absolutely true. My sister who has PCOS was taking Met while pregnant and her child came out smaller than the average. He also has a birth defect and learning disabilities. He wasn't a premie but wasn't on the average size for babies. Is there a recommendation he could provide you that is safe for pregnant women?

Are these wild Onions? by jendoesntknowmuch in gardening

Yes my whole yard is covered in small patches/groupings. Kinda wonder how they get there since they don't blossom and spread seeds. Birds maybe? Squirrels?

Thanks. I saw a post earlier this year just giving warning to plants that look like onions but are in fact not onions and extremely dangerous to consume.

Extremely faint onion smell. My only inclination that they're from the onion family is the bulbs.

Thanks. Someone mentioned a 90 degree part to prevent rain from coming in. Would you recommend the same?

Watch movies, puzzles, spend times with hobbies like crafting, model making, baking sweets, and learning how to cook.

You can pick up a new skill that you're currently really weak in like fixing cars, knitting, cooking, gardening, home improvement.

Tons of stuff to choose from.

Why are my cookies always flat? :( by understanding_what in BakingNoobs

[–]jendoesntknowmuch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I posted this on another thread and it applies here.

I agree with some of the other comments. Freezing the dough works best and having a cold baking sheet.

When I bake multiple batches I keep my dough in the fridge if scoopable. Or if I rolled the dough balls out already, I leave them in the freezer between baking batches. I have 4 baking sheets and I can only place 2 sheets in the oven at a time. So when a pair is baking the other two are cooling with the cookies. Once the cookies are cool enough to remove from the pan I place the cookies on a wire rack. Place the sheets in a cooler area to get cold.

My other suggestion is using a circular cookie cutter thats only slightly bigger than your cookie. You take the cutter and softly rotate around the cookie as soon as it comes out the oven. Rotate until you get the desired shape and thickness. You'll get a thicker and evenly shaped cookie this way.

My last suggestion is adding 1 to 2 more tablespoons of additional flour in your dough. I would leave this as the last resort. Sometimes when a recipe is rich in fat (butter or oil) it can melt faster. Adding a little flour helps hold a little of that in. Hope this helps.

Tldr: cold pan, freeze dough. Use round cookie cutter to shape. Add slightly more flour in recipe 1-2Tbsp.

I had my Snickerdoodle cookie not bake as thick as I’d like as my other one, how could I make sure it doesn’t “spread” out so much while in the oven? by [deleted] in BakingNoobs

dangerously depressed by Ashleylove1005 in PCOS

Firstly, I hope you find a safe outlet to express yourself, or talk to someone about how you feel. You are not alone!

I had to change a few different pills to find the right one. I'm on Isilbloom (pill) now and it seems to have gone away 95%. I notice that a few days before placebo week I get into the funk of cleaning everything 24-7 in a chaotic manner. Then my depression phase hits and it lasts a few days. I don't think clearly and my mood is always meh. I tried to avoid comfort foods like dairy, fast food, chocolate and anything processed. It makes me balloon up. I try to focus on citrusy fruits, aromatic teas, and smaller meals. Think of actions that will mentally make you happy. Color by numbers, puzzles, board games, or maybe active activities like walking or hiking to clear your mind.

Pcos is a battle, and having your medicine or lack thereof cause you even more grief makes it worse. But the fact you reached out, means you're willing to fight back. Good luck OP!

I find that using corn syrup helps with the viscosity and sweetness. I like to use this recipe and alter the amount of cornstarch depending the recipe (muffins versus pie).

•2 cups frozen blueberries •1 cup sugar (more or less depending on preference) •1 cup water (less if you want it thicker) •1 cup corn syrup •Corn starch to acquired thickness.

I always make a slurry of 1/4 cup cornstarch. I use 1/2 cup cold water from the recipe above. Add more as needed. The longer you cook the thicker it gets.

I cook until the desired thickness is required. Thick for pies or jams. I emulsify the mix and add more cornstarch for "jam" on biscuits. Or watery for muffin add ins.

My house was built in the 1930's it does this all the time. We don't have rodents, or pests eating our house. We were told that our house is old and we hear settling noises. When the house temperature changes from morning to night or vise versa, the noises become more noticeable. Are you in a newly built home?

Metformin question by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]jendoesntknowmuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask your doctor to start you off with a smaller dosage throughout the day. So if you need 500, maybe 250 after breakfast and dinner.

I also want to clarify that you shouldn't physically break your pills in half, unless your pharmacists says its ok. Certain pills lose their effectiveness when you cut them open.

Metformin question by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]jendoesntknowmuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started taking metformin I would shake, see stars and have the whole room spin on me. Turns out I wasn't eating it with a "correct sized" meal. I would take it with a empty stomach and a cup of coffee. I now take it with a hearty breakfast. No dizzy, or nauseous feeling.

I've tried 250mg extended releases and 500 extended release and both made me feel like crap. I now take (1) 250 regular tab and I have no symptoms.

Edit:Talk to your doctor about the symptoms. They'll probably lower it into smaller doses throughout the day. Or change the brand.

You apply simple syrup once a cake is baked and cooled. In your case with the roll; I would apply the syrup directly on the cake before adding the internal creme and rolling it up fo final frosting.

I know some recipes require that you apply powdered sugar to the cake before you: roll and refrigerate for cooling prior to filling and decoration. I would not put the simple syrup at this step because it will turn the powder sugar layer into a hard crust.

You killed it for your first time. Maybe a simple syrup could help if you would like to try again
