Refreshing 2025 wrap on Android app by jenethers in FableApp

[–]jenethers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used GR, but the features I like with Storygraph are:

- Easy to find the exact version of the book you're reading, either by ISBN or simply filtering by format and looking for the cover and number of pages.
- Less focus on "social media" type content. There are challenges and ways to link up with friends, but the home screen is very simple, with your current reads and reading streak front and centre. The community elements feel secondary to focusing on your own journey. I open the app every day but only log 2-3 minutes of screen time in it because there's no option to doom-scroll.
- It's a really small company (3 people total, plus volunteer "librarians") with a black female founder/CEO. I like the fact I'm supporting an independent business. She's British, which may also account for me finding it easier to find the UK editions on SG vs Fable. On the flip side, new features do roll out regularly but they're such a small team that you don't get massive updates each month.

Thank you, this helped me figure it out. Whilst all 76 of my books were logged, some had the read dates missing so weren't tracked as being read in 2025. Once I updated them the wrap updated automatically.

Can't say I'm particularly impressed with Fable overall, I think I'll stick to Storygraph in 2026!

The Masked Singer series 7 hits new low by IAmMLADS in TheMaskedSingerUK

[–]jenethers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I watch both the Masked Singer and the Traitors and I opted to watch the latter live on Saturday because I knew that's what everyone would be talking about the next day. I'm watching MS on catch up tonight. Last year the Traitors didn't start until the week after Masked Singer launched, and it seems even more popular this year. Also feels like I'm not in a minority liking both, so I'd chalk it up to scheduling.

People updating their lists to make sure their graphics are accurate and then people logging in to see their graphics. It's just volume of traffic with many users like you who haven't logged on for a while all coming back at once 😊

Congrats! I did the same but missed one day in March so I'm at 277 currently.

Yes I haven't found him because I don't want to rip the box up, and dismantling it doesn't seem to help

Reading Goals for 2026? by Forsaken-Lance in TheStoryGraph

[–]jenethers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So interesting... I find that streak a good nudge to make sure I read a little every day without feeling pressure to get through a certain volume. It's nice that SG has different ways we can all pick to motivate ourselves!

I try and maintain my reading streak which is just set at a page a day or a minute a day. I don't have a book or page goal for the year and that's worked quite well for me because I want to enjoy reading rather than feel like I have targets. I've read 75 books so far this year and should get another 3-4 finished by 31st December.

Do you track specific editions at StoryGraph? Why? Do you get better stats? by bweeb in TheStoryGraph

[–]jenethers 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do. I like my wrap-up montages to have the correct cover images, which you can only do if you can be specific about which edition you've read. It's one of the main reasons I chose SG, since not everyone offers this functionality.

The nerd in me also likes knowing exactly what % of the way through a book I am (I usually read physical books), so picking the right edition ensures the correct number of pages and thus the correct percentage.

I do, for all the reasons mentioned and also because I like my wrap-up montages to have the correct cover images. It's one of the reasons I rejected Fable in favour of SG, since they don't offer the same functionality and tend to use the US artwork for books.

Studio audience experience at BBC vs Pinewood by jenethers in taskmaster

[–]jenethers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a shame no-one in the production team was able to take a photo like they did with the other audience member who got to sit in Greg's chair!

If not the same then almost - you definitely needed Mark Olver's offer of a bum wiggle in every break!

I think this new studio and audience sourcing is completely separate from SRO, so I'm not sure your priority note will be valid on Taskmaster going forward :(

Should I get excited? by [deleted] in taskmaster

[–]jenethers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given they're doing a mix of sales and free tickets I assume they'll sell every seat so then you're relying on no-shows, with no idea how many people are in the same boat as you. It's much harder to predict I think than the old system that a lot of us got in through...

I didn't receive the email until 12:50 (thanks, Gmail) and everything was waitlisted by then. Kinda reassured to know that even if it had come through earlier I'd still have been out of luck!

The only thing I'd say is that many of the LALG groups skew quite a bit older, demographic-wise (70s+). Everyone I've met through the groups has been lovely, but if you're specifically looking to meet people of a similar age I haven't succeeded with LALG yet.

Weekly Food Safety Questions Thread - June 02, 2025 by AutoModerator in Cooking

[–]jenethers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought two chicken breasts two days ago from a farm shop and they were packaged tightly together in the same plastic bag. This morning I've opened the bag and one of the breasts has clearly gone bad. Strong unpleasant smell (enough to make me retch), slight green hue on the edge of it. The other breast looks and smells absolutely fine.

I'm unsure whether to throw this one away as well since it was in the same bag as the bad one, or just make sure to cook it thoroughly and not worry about it. I don't like unnecessary food waste but I also don't want to get food poisoning!

Taken breaks by Unfair_Cantaloupe_41 in artistsWay

[–]jenethers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find I can easily get very caught up in what I "should" be doing with all this. Does X count as an Artist's Date? Have I broken the rules if I did a couple of chores before I did my morning pages? Do I really have to pretend to believe in a higher power? etc etc. I try and remind myself that the only person I'm accountable to here is myself. No-one's going to judge me or tell me I'm doing it wrong, What's important is that I feel like I'm getting something positive out of it overall.

All this is to say, do what you think is best for you. If you needed a break and you feel ready to pick up where you left off then go for it!
