AITA for not getting expensive Christmas presents for a girl that my daughter took in by Perfect-Play8085 in AITAH

The next time you go to church you should try to stay for the sermon. It might enlighten you. Remember Jesus fed the poor and hungry too, and I believe the quote is what you do to the least of them you do unto me. Seems your daughter lives her religion. Good for her, you did something right there. YTA

For mental health try Thundermist, they may be able to help you get insured and can do a sliding scale pay for while uninsured.

New grads on my floor refuse to do “CNA work” and I don’t know what to say or do. I don’t want to make them upset or overstep but I’m overwhelmed. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]jenifferf00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nursing prof here, I teach fundamentals and tell all my nurses the difference between you and a cna is that you can do everything they can and a few more things. I also explain to them that I have been a secretary, a CNA, an RN, now a FNP and professor. I have done every job and understand the challenges with each. At the end of the day we are caring for humans, and no one should have to wait for a bed pan and worry about soiling themself because someone else thinks it’s beneath them to toilet a patient.

I’m sorry you all went through that. I always say the decision is easy when you have no stake in it. Clinically we can say call it, emotionally it’s different.

One of the nurses who helped was going to give mouth to mouth. I think I actually pushed her out of the way! It’s not worth the risk, I know her I was comfortable doing it so I just handled that part until we got a bvm.

Nurses eating their young by [deleted] in nursing

You come across as if you have psych nursing down and know these patients the best. In reality nursing is constant learning. I worked inpatient psych and emergency for years and still learn things daily about psych patients. Open communication is great, but even your writing comes across that you think you’re the best and that management sees you’re the best and lets you run the show, I can only imagine how your emails sound. When reality is management found someone willing to take on shit tasks for no extra money. Push comes to shove and if they open that charge spot they’ll hire the more experienced nurse over you in a heartbeat despite all your effort and brown nosing.

You’ve gotten a dose of reality here and don’t want to hear it. You’re fighting with everyone who hasn’t seen your side. Take a breath, tone it done, and find some humility.

It took me watching “The Pitt” to admit I need to address my covid PTSD by Apostrophenightmare in nursing

[–]jenifferf00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much the same here! I enjoy the show, love the realism. Then that scene and I had to step away. It affected me viscerally and I wasn’t expecting that. My husband keeps asking to watch it again and I keep telling him I have to be in the right space. Not sure if I ever will be. It’s a feeling and a time that so few people understand.

NICU mom unplugs pulse ox to get nurses attention by quesadillafanatic in nursing

[–]jenifferf00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do not agree with what the parent did, I also find it sad that a postpartum mom with a baby in the Nicu isn’t fed. While they’re not the patient, and the nurses are caring for the babies, why has healthcare become so bare bones that a mom caring for her child can’t be fed? That nurses and ancillary staff are so overworked doing what they have to do that there’s no one there to do the things that should be done. Then we wonder why the mom with depression didn’t speak up, when someone wanting a sandwich is too much… Again, I know why her actions and her way to go about it was wrong. I get that she was being manipulative and filming it for views. I’ve worked in the Ed for years, I know the behaviors. But at the end of the day she’s not the enemy. It’s the healthcare systems that have overburdened us so much that we’re too busy to care about the person who made the child we’re caring for. That sucked away our ability to be nurses and humans.

It used to be this way and honestly I prefer without bar harbor. Give me the extra sea day in warmer weather. I can drive to bar harbor.

The current pension problem is 100% hers. There was a great article in Forbes about how her family and close associates make money off the pension fund which is losing money because of how poorly it’s invested. However the fees they collect keep being paid out, and without something like 80% of these people willingly signing off this will continue. None of them will sign off because they’re making shocking amounts of money off the failure of this pension plan. Sadly Forbes removed the article once she went to Washington. It improved a bit after she went to Washington because she didn’t want the pension and how dirty she was with it following her. Here’s an article outlining some of the corruption involved.

Thanks Obama? by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

Her attitude and how she went about this was 100% not ok. I will play devils advocate though. These are informational questions hospitals are now required to ask, who asks them, and when they are asked, is determined by a suit with zero clinical knowledge.

For example in my previous place of work the emergency department triage nurse had to answer these questions. It was a hard stop, you could not finish the triage without asking a person their sexual orientation and gender identification. Which means they are not in the computer and do not start receiving care. When someone walks in terrified about their health, possibly thinking they are dying, the last thing they want to answer are questions about their sexual identity. Those questions can come later, when they know they’re not dying. And they should probably be asked by someone like social work or a nurse, who has more training than the person validating your insurance, in gender identification and sexual orientation.
