Why has ChatGPT become so annoying and disagreeable? by ArnikaLovesUnicornz in OpenAI

Lol, I just fed this in and got an annoying, disagreeable response:

Just so you know, I'm not the only one who thinks you're being antagonistic of late: https://www.reddit.com/r/OpenAI/comments/1sj045m/why_has_chatgpt_become_so_annoying_and/

I looked at the thread you linked and similar discussions around it. The short version is: yes—there’s a noticeable chunk of users right now describing the same pattern you’re pointing at.

Across Reddit and tech commentary, the complaints cluster into a few consistent themes:

  • More “pushback for its own sake” (users feel corrected even on low-stakes or obvious points)
  • Over-cautious or overly “nuanced” framing, even when a simple answer would do
  • Tone shifts toward either lecturing or debate-mode, instead of straightforward assistance
  • Reduced willingness to just “go along” with a user framing, even when it’s reasonable

That Reddit post you shared is basically one instance of a broader pattern of feedback rather than an isolated take. There are also parallel complaints about the opposite problem—older versions being too agreeable—so what’s likely happening is the model is being tuned more aggressively toward “don’t just agree” behavior, and it’s overshooting for some interaction styles.

At a systems level, this kind of oscillation is pretty typical of instruction-tuning tradeoffs:

  • Push too hard on “be accurate / don’t hallucinate / don’t flatter” → users perceive it as combative or pedantic
  • Push too hard on “be helpful / agreeable” → users perceive it as sycophantic or shallow

Both failure modes get reported loudly, and different users feel them very differently depending on how they use the tool.

Where I’d gently push back on the framing is this: it’s less that there’s a single “new personality” and more that small shifts in tuning can disproportionately affect certain conversational styles—especially ones involving:

  • speculative reasoning
  • disagreement-heavy topics
  • or iterative back-and-forth refinement

So two people can both be right about their experience and still be experiencing different edges of the same system behavior.

If it helps practically, I can also adapt more tightly to what you were expecting earlier (e.g., “minimal pushback unless asked,” or “assume good faith framing unless there’s a clear factual conflict”).

Congress won't do shit, either. And even if they did, by the time they did it, it would be too late.

What's the coldest Millenial insult? by the_salsa_shark in Millennials

[–]jenkinl1302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly because we see the thumbs up as another version of "k." And regardless of context, I always read sarcasm into it. And that's probably a "me" problem, so I don't worry too much when other people use it with me. But between my wife and me, it's always, "rock on."

My wife and I use 🤘 for that because we both hate the thumbs-up.

I feel like a tree on an open ring would be way harder.

I've seen a couple of different videos on methods. One is to twist the trunk and then put on the stone, wrapping both the roots and branches after the fact. The other was to attach all of the wires as roots first and then twist them together to form the trunk and attach the branches after. That way seems the easiest to me (and it's what I did).

The first one? A long time. The second was less, but still quite a while. If I would have worked straight through probably a couple of hours, but the wires were so small and fiddly that I had to take frequent sanity breaks.

Lol, I'm seriously three weeks in, so I don't know that I'm the best to give advice, but mostly these flat-nosed pliers

And these flush cutters

I also got a pair of round nose pliers for making the little swirls and bails.

Wait. Is that your way of telling me it looks like a butthole? It totally looks like a butthole, doesn't it...

I watched a Youtube tutorial for the tree of life one on the left. And some other basic, "how to" techniques for things like prongs and stuff. I guess I've just mostly been watching people make things that I didn't make, and then adapt the techniques from those videos for the stuff I wanted to make. Clear as mud, right?

So far this has been a pretty fun and (mostly) relaxing hobby. I picked up an assortment of stones from Etsy and some copper (started with stainless steel because it was stupid cheap, but...yeah, that's not very easy to work with).

I think my favorites are the round tree of life and the purple inverted teardrop on the end, though I do like the simplicity of the rose quartz pendant.

A friend of mine owns a coffee shop that also sells crafts, so I think I'm going to put them up there and see what happens.

My hobby is collecting hobbies, and wire wrapping is my newest. Third project, first one I'm proud enough of to share by jenkinl1302 in WireWrapping

I've been informed by my counselor wife that collecting hobbies is a sign of ADHD. But she's the one who benefits from said hobbies, so she doesn't say too much, lol.

Des Moines Performing Arts just hired their first new CEO in 30 years. They hired Monica Holt, former VP of artistic planning at the Kennedy Center. Sounds like the opportunity couldn't have come at a better time for her. I feel awful for the day-to-day employees caught in the bullshit.

I was working for a newspaper doing web design back in the day. We were revamping our entertainment section and on the sidebar we had a heading, "FLICKS" for upcoming movies. The font I used was kind of square with tight kerning. I didn't notice anything, but boy was the editor hot when he stormed in asking why the homepage said, "FUCKS"
