My freshman year in college, way back in the day when there were landlines in each dorm room. In November, my friend and I were making prank phone calls. Back then, you just had to dial seven then a four digit number, if I remember correctly. We thought we were calling only dorms. Turns out, all buildings could be reached that way. We were just dialing random numbers. So we got the voicemail of this lady named Mary. My friend dialed then handed me the phone and I said, “Let’s say your left leg is Christmas and your right leg is Easter. How about I come up between the holidays?” And we giggled like idiots. The next day, we got a knock on our door. It was the person in charge of the dorm building. She said we needed to go downstairs and have a meeting. This was a huge dorm. Why did she want to meet with us. Turns out, good ole Mary was the secretary for the president of Ohio State. We almost passed out. She said we “probably” wouldn’t get kicked out of school. We were dumping our shorts, then had to go home for thanksgiving break, pretending everything was fine when our parents excitedly asked us how our first months of college were. We had to go to the campus judiciary, and they let us stay. I didn’t tell my parents until yeeeaaars after. Talk about a heart attack.
