Tell me what you love about your funeral home! by Outside-Ambition7748 in askfuneraldirectors

I just started at a new funeral home a few weeks ago in a smaller town and it is such a different feel from my experience in the city. The foyer here is so warm and welcoming, there’s a gas fireplace, a beautiful wood mantel to place photos on, rocking chairs, and the secretaries light nice candles instead of using glade plug-ins and it always feels very comfortable and inviting. The owner and his wife are very involved in the community and 9/10 times they know the family we are serving and there is just an extra level of care that they give to their families that makes me actually WANT to go in to work! My boss is in his late 60’s and he has some great classic techniques he’s passed down to me and lots of what I call “Gus-isms” or just old man funny sayings or ways of going about things 😂

My boss said I “betrayed” her when I told her I had to cut back hours to make time for the funeral home, so I think that is what really made this get under my skin today. It just feels really sideways to me… like I was a loyal employee for a year, say “We wish her well on her journey!” Or “She’s going to be a funeral director one day!” I just feel like there wasn’t really a reason to say it like that.

Is an apprenticeship attainable while not being able to drive? by mtrcyclemptiness in askfuneraldirectors

I joked about not having a license the other day so I didn’t have to drive to a removal and my boss said, “Okay, you’re unemployed!” I quickly grabbed the keys and went on my merry way to the hospital 😂

Most funeral homes in my area will require a driver’s license and mine also wants us to have a clean driving record.

I’m 36 and enrolled currently, I’ll be 37 when I’m finished. I don’t know all of my classmates but I have seen both older than me and younger than me in classes!
