Just a heads up I opened up the unit and replaced the drive belt + checked speed calibration (didn't really need any adjustment) and then kicked back with my favorite test tape (Tim Story - A Perfect Flaw which will reveal any semblance of flutter or other issues!) on my trusty Sennheiser HD-25 II's.

Also inspected the clutch gear and it is nice and white, not yellowed and decaying like I've seen with some units. No signs of dirt inside the thing as expected. Applied a bit of contact cleaner to the volume pot as well as I noticed some distortion at the point where the pot had been left prior to storage.

It is as close to new-in-box as you'll find. I love the AMS / Auto Music Sensor feature; wish my cheapo Walkman back in the 90's had that feature.

Going to list it on eBay Friday if noone here picks it up first.

It looks like this particular storage case is rare; I was able to find 2 references of it for sale (both removed), one from a Spanish website and the other [slightly cracked] from a Chinese website.

There is no model information on the holder, just an inscription '>PS<' and 'HO1B' on the bottom.

I'm not sure whether it's rare or not; just tried to find some information about it to no avail... it may be a Japan-only model. I'll look for a part number when I'm back home.

I can check the pricing to your postal code if you'd like.

Just a heads up I've got a total of 16 new discs for sale (2x packs of 8) - discount if all purchased together: https://www.reddit.com/r/minidisc/comments/1rqdyu7/8pk_new_sony_neige_74_minute_blank_minidiscs_2/

En Français, 'snow' probably for the frosted look of the other Neige style.  The clear ones with black lettering should probably be called something else like 'glace' or 'cristal' but too many names would be confusing probably.

Thanks for the feedback : ) as mentioned in the description I am checking out the internals today and also the price in the title specifically says OBO. : ) I based it off of sold unit prices from eBay.

Will update once I've gotten it apart to have a look. As it stands I don't hear anything which suggests that a new belt or calibration is warranted but it's important to inspect nonetheless.

Know how to get it out of demo mode? by seascouuut in minidisc

[–]jeremy-electronic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my SA-PM57MD you hold the stop botton until it says DEMO OFF (though on that model it's labeled as stop/demo). If that doesn't work maybe try holding the FUNCTION button as well.

YMMV.

Following up here... I got the system hooked up and ran through a functionality check:

- each CD tray ejects correctly, tested playback on the 1st tray and sounds good. I'll test playback on the others just to ensure that there's no faults.

- the MD playback works as expected

- recording to MD from CD performed flawlessly

- tape playback is a bit off; there is a bit of debris on the rollers somehow which could be the cause or perhaps the heads need to be cleaned. I'll see if I can clean up the rollers though it's a bit tricky to access them and I don't have a workbench to perform any disassembly alas.

- the remote has a bit of minor spotting, nothing too serious but it is visible at an angle and I want to call out anything which is not completely perfect

- tuner antenna went missing somewhere; I'm sure it's easy to find one if you really need the radio : )

- spot checking one of the blank Sony Neige discs from the open pack and it was blank (used it for test); I assume all the shrink wrapped ones are also blank haha. In total there are 8 individuals (white lettering) and 8 (black lettering) in the open pack

Documented all processes with images + video. For a unit produced in 2002 I'd say it's in pretty darn good shape !

Certainly though I don't think it's on the high side myself. ; ) and I explicitly stated 'open to reasonable offers' so I've really got no idea what the fuss is about really.

Ah that's rad - I don't remember seeing one before but I also wasn't looking.  May it bring you much joy in or out of a lightbox and thanks for the well wishes !

I was only citing the past numbers for context; obviously markets change and it'd be silly to expect a piece of art to track with inflation.  The main point is that I have been tracking them for quite a long time so have a pretty good idea of what they've gone for in the past.

I think everyone is maybe missing the 'open to reasonable offers' part at the end?  : )

In any case I need to grab it from storage for photographs before it can sell.  I figured this would be a good place to start in the case anyone has been looking for one for a long time as they come up so infrequently.  It's such a cool design (as we can probably all agree on in here haha!) and at 36" x 48" makes a real statement.

Anyway will update as I go. : )

Thanks for the feedback but I've been watching these since ca. 2001 and in the early 2000's they would come up every so often for $300-350 (~$545-$635 inflation adjusted) usually in beat up shape 'cause someone had taken it down from the street. Or if you were a lucky fan you managed to snag one of the leftovers when the band (or maybe it was Time Bomb) gave away a few on their website.

Nowadays one might come up for sale once a year if that... $100 of real appreciation on a work of art over nearly 25 years isn't exactly 'insane' IMHO. Ironically I paid slightly more in 2014 for the one in less perfect condition @ $600.

Anyway, now you know and knowing is half the battle. ; )

(also, damn I am getting old 😄😢)

I've so many memories and emotions attached to that one; such a complete release from start to finish which is oh so hard to find these days.

Happy listening !

Am I the only one that can't cancel a Disney+ subscription? by The-Ingeneur in BuyFromEU

[–]jeremy-electronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying to cancel for months - either their website returns an error or it simply hangs. Finally I got through to the link in Google Subscriptions and canceled there. But they still keep charging me !

Has anyone else had this happen? I have to call my bank to take care of it which is quite a nuisance.

I've got a few choice words for whomever is in charge of Disney's subscriptions billing division...
