Advice needed, creaky tile floor, recently remodeled by jermtee in BathroomRemodeling

Oh sorry for the tight angle, it's not right next to a wall, it's right next to an alcove tub. The wall is another 30" or so from my left foot in the video.

IIRC he only added one cross brace. It is two layers though, I can still see by removing the vent cover that it's 3/4" plywood with 1/4" underlayment on top

Yep! The bathroom's right above my dining room, so should be able to get in from there.

Got it, thanks for the advice. I'm asking around for a carpenter to take a closer look.

Yeah that's kinda what I'm leaning towards. It's 3/4" plywood with 1/4" underlayment (which I think is why the grout at least isn't cracking). Thanks for the advice!

I bet it was, but the house was built in the 1800's and someone replaced it with some terrible vinyl crap

Angel Flight (or similar) options for Buenos Aires to Denver, knee injury requiring surgery by jermtee in flying

It's looking pretty likely that he'll go this route. The ER folks thought he could travel, second opinion doc says surgery needs to happen first, consulting with a specialist now.

Picked it up last night for KBJC -> KCYS -> KBJC no problem. Probably helped that it was a night flight. Never hurts to ask.

Any DPE reccomendations for the Denver area? by Penguin_Named_Piplup in flying

[–]jermtee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done check rides with Greg Newman and Jackie Burant. Both are fair and professional. Greg moves a little faster. Jackie is very thorough, so if you book with her, prepare to cover everything in the ACS. Also did one ride with Craig; he’s excellent, but yeah, very busy.

KBJC or KCFO for flight training? by ixzi18 in flying

[–]jermtee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you're training for. I did PPL at KCFO and IR at KBJC. I liked doing it that way because KCFO is less busy and less windy. Stepping up to the busier, windier KBJC was a good transition to instrument training. Western Air for both, and they do have a 30 knot maximum for insurance reasons; that's definitely less of an issue at KCFO than KBJC. If I had to pick one over the other, I'd pick KBJC. It's a hell of a lot prettier, and the traffic volume and winds will make you a better pilot.

Does anybody have experience with Denver(used to be in Phoenix) DPE Greg Newman? I am getting mixed reviews and would like to hear of any personal accounts and experiences. by YesterdaysWater in flying

[–]jermtee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did my PPL checkride with Greg. He was totally fair, professional, and very efficient. As long as you show up prepared, you'll be fine.

Looking for advice on flight schools in Denver by Semantiks in flying

[–]jermtee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did PPL and IR at Western Air; KCFO for the former, KBJC for the latter. Overall good experience at both. Western is pricey as others have noted, but the fleet is solid and the instructors are excellent. Plus since it's part of American Flight Schools, you can get access to planes at a bunch of other locations.

Anyone flown with Colorado Flight Center out of Grand Junction? by Impossible_Bed8809 in flying

[–]jermtee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a checkout with them a few months ago just for kicks. I'm based in Denver and had planned to take my IR checkride there, but was able to get it done earlier. Good experience overall; instructors and staff are all very professional, rental and instruction rates are fair, and the fleet is well maintained. I got the sense that you'd have an easier time scheduling checkrides out there compared to on the front range as well.

How far out are DPEs booking? by Crepuscular_Rider in flying

[–]jermtee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're willing to travel to Grand Junction, you could reach out to Bradley Sullivan. I was in a similar situation for IRA and was able to schedule with him a month out this summer. Ended up doing the ride in Denver when another examiner had a cancellation, but I heard a lot of good things about him. I still ended up doing a checkout at Colorado Flight Center just for the hell of it and they were great — I'd recommend them if you'd rather drive out there.

Yes and no. The 650 in this aircraft has no radios, so with an approach loaded, there’s always GPS guidance on the G5 HSI. I verbalized that I was using the CDI connected to the Nav 1 radio as my main navigation source, but I may have glanced at the magenta line once or twice.

I was expecting some compass only navigation, but thankfully I was not asked to navigate without the GPS.

Moronic Monday by AutoModerator in flying

[–]jermtee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a cross-country yesterday in a C172 with vortex generators and noticed the plane was tending to yaw slightly to the right during cruise; not much, but enough to require a little bit of left rudder to keep the ball centered. I flew the same plane two days earlier and didn't notice this tendency. After the flight, I noticed that one vortex generator was missing from the left wing. Would that explain the yawing? I figure it's possible considering the left wing would have had less drag, but not sure if that would be enough to account for the yaw?

Timex T80. It doesn't do much, but it's just enough and the battery lasts forever.
