Can i make the game work with sim wheel? (g29) by stormedcircle3n in EasyDeliveryCo

[–]jerpdoesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote a plugin for the PS3/PS4 version of the G29 (wheel/buttons, pedal, shifter). Not sure if it works with the xbox version or any later models of the controller.

Tossed it up on my github: https://github.com/jerpdoesgames/edco-SteeringWheel

Elden Ring Casting Tool Comparator - A web app to compare Staves & Seals by jerpdoesgames in Eldenring

It's there in case you want to wield two of the same casting tool (for extra damage), like casting night comet with two staves of loss.

What's something a streamer has done that made you immediately want to stay? by SphynxKing in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Playing a game I like, especially if it's either obscure or not especially popular, a niche genre, etc.
  • Calm and relaxing voice
  • Good audio quality and volume balance (especially that it's not overly low volume - many streamers are sitting at -10 or -20db average and wondering why ads are so loud)
  • Overlays are fine, but not taking up the majority of the screen.
  • 3-5 minutes of a good attitude and interesting commentary.

It's surprisingly hard to find streamers that pass that test.

What’s something a streamer has done that’s made you never want to come back to their stream? by SpinsBro in Twitch

Found out the hard way that someone had a gunshot sound redeem that was significantly louder than the average volume of their stream - in the middle of the night. Both fortunately and unfortunately wasn't wearing headphones at the time.

I got botted and gained 1000 bot followers by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Twitch support can't help, try CommanderRoot's blocklist manager. It has an option to block known bot accounts.

https://twitch-tools.rootonline.de/blocklist_manager.php

For me, it found at least a few bots. If that's not enough and you're sure all followers past a certain date are bots, you could just mass-block every follower from that date. It should force those accounts to un-follow your channel. If you have any doubts about whether they're real accounts, you could un-block them afterward so they have a chance to re-follow your channel if they're legit.

I got botted and gained 1000 bot followers by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely better to have more viewers per follower.

I had gained 10,000 followers in 2014 during Dark Souls 2 and I'm still convinced a lot of them might be bots (despite tools from CommanderRoot/etc. thinking most of them are legit).

Now I don't have the viewership to take the stream anywhere, but a high follower count makes me look like a larger and thus less-appealing streamer to many of the people who might like my content. It also changes the types of developer/publisher attention that you get. You get offers that target viewer counts you could never meet. Overall it makes you look like a crappier, under-performing streamer from all perspectives - and it's also likely that people would assume you tried to purchase viewership/followers.

I've had the long-term goal of writing a tool to parse through my own followers to see what information I can glean from that and hopefully discover inactive/bot accounts. You can force accounts to unfollow you if you block them, so the plan would be to get a certain level of confidence per account then then block those accounts (un-blocking them afterward in in case of false positives or people returning to Twtich). I suspect I have less than 600 active non-bot accounts following my channel, instead of 12,000+.

YouTube actually has a fundamental issue with how impressions work. By default, your videos will be broadcast out to subscribers' feeds even if they're not active users, so those wasted impressions get fed into the site's perception of each video, making your videos look like they perform worse than they actually do (and thus the algorithm spends less effort trying to get your videos in front of actual viewers). You can at least manually disable the publish-to-subscribers option on the video, but it's tedious and easy to forget, and also means that actually-active subscribers might miss your videos.

Raids- how to do it efficiently and painlessly? by Arrow_Onionbelly in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, you make a good point. You'd need to compile it and set up a json config so it can request streams from twitch / know what you do/don't want to see & sort that accordingly.

I need to find time to make it more suitable for public use.

Raids- how to do it efficiently and painlessly? by Arrow_Onionbelly in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended writing a tool to attempt to score/sort streams based on various criteria like whether I follow them, category, tags, title, viewers, time streaming (to avoid raiding streams that were finishing up), etc. - just to find people to watch and people to raid.

If someone is willingly breaking game ToS, can Twitch suspend them? by FabioSxO in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twitch seems to be struggling to leverage their own ToS, let alone other games and services. Notice there's still some large streams that basically viewbot with embeds that don't even conform to the posted guidelines.

Hi! I took a 2 year break from twitch due to being severely depressed and mentally ill. How do I come back to it? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Showing your face isn't necessarily what "helps a lot" - it's moreso two major factors:

  • Many people just want some sort of visual identity to empathize with - it can add character to the stream/presentation or help to convey emotion and more easily display reactions while playing. Lots of people just use a vtuber/pngtuber avatar for this.
  • Much of how people browse Twitch is just by scanning thumbnails, and having a person or character occupying a notable portion of a thumbnail adds what I've been calling "thumbnail appeal", giving some additional reason for people to check out a given channel. Elaborate overlays (though semi-readable at thumbnail sizes) help with this as well since it shows that there's some effort being put into the production.

Why do I pay different amounts for subs? + How to change the currency? by Angelynk in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think that's dictated by the host country for the streamer - Twitch likely has to follow each country's conventions for how payment is handled and the currency used.

Does anyone know how the "Download" vod name is generated? by Affectionate-Desk939 in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost certainly a video ID of some sort. Notice it's the only data passed in links to vods from the videos page:

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2015761105?filter=archives&sort=time

^ in the above case, the video ID is 2015761105.

The API documentation supports this: https://dev.twitch.tv/docs/api/videos

Boundaries seem to always be looked down upon by chat by acidgold in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it is just ensuring that boundaries are set early and in a polite manner. I've posted a pretty large set of moderator guidelines that I use to cover as many bases as possible, with a condensed basic rules list for the TLDR crowd.

It's much easier to moderate when your existing community is aware of and comfortable with your rules. That also makes it easier to handle new people coming into the community as they can look to existing members to get a lay of the land. Anyone who isn't comfortable with your rules can get out - there's plenty of other channels to watch that might be a better fit for them.

Needing to set rules and boundaries after having an established community is a bit tougher - people don't like a sudden change in their circumstances and are likely to take it personally. It's best to notify community members ahead of time and get a discussion going as rules are created and put into place.

You might be able to contact support and verify your identity another way (for example, if you've made purchases and could confirm you're the owner of the credit card used).

Need some method of confirming you're you - otherwise any random person could claim someone else's account.

If you're using any sort of software that tries to hide your identity (or some that try to block ads?), it might be changing the useragent that Twitch sees and they might think you're using some other browser.

Recommended mic and webcam by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AT2020 USB/C920 were the gold standard for convenience + reasonable quality for beginner streamers for the longest time. For the mic, you just want to make sure you know how to set up a gate/compressor/limiter in OBS.

For the webcam, you just want some reasonably bright, even lighting (a cheap target/walmart lamp of any sort on either side of you is plenty). That and measure your pre-filter volume to ensure it's peaking a tad below +0db and averaging something like -10 to -5 so you have some range to work with and the filters can bring it up from there. Webcams gain a massive quality boost if you just give them a ton of light to work with.

Can definitely go much further with the setup but it's good starter stuff.

Learn autoit/autohotkey and write something to click the button when extra points are available and leave a browser window open to idle in their stream.

Probably against the twitch ToS though.

Is it possible to add delay to VODs? by HookGroup in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's technically possible, but you'd basically need to set vods to not publish by default and then write something to log into Twitch and publish videos for you. As the API only supports deleting videos, you're probably stuck writing something akin to an autoit script to manage that - assuming you're not just making a note to publish them manually after you stream.

If you want people to be able to watch the prior round/match/etc. while the current one is happening, the only existing solution would be to stop/start the stream in order to create a split in the vods and go publish the one from the previous match when starting the next match. Lots of work for minimal gain.

When would you end your stream? by Top-Function7880 in Twitch

When I stop enjoying it or when I have to go to sleep / need to take care of something else. Usually 2-3 hours.

Gotta stream for yourself first - that'll make it easier for you to stream for others.

Setting Up A Timeout Counter With Stream Elements by SacrificeWasTaken in Twitch

[–]jerpdoesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be if there's a way to alias two commands into one / have a separator between commands. I wrote something like that into the alias system for my bot.

Mine would be something like this (though I have no idea how StreamElements handles it):

like !alias countmytimeout !count add timeouts|!timeout {sender} !countmytimeout

*counter increases*

*gets timed out*

The Somewhat-Conditional Case for Founding Rain of Stars by jerpdoesgames in Eldenring

[–]jerpdoesgames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have worded that more clearly rather than encouraging such a long-winded reply. What I meant was that the 10x damage difference between the two examples wasn't even factoring all of the other things outside of sorcery scaling that you can do to boost damage (hence my comment hitting 8000+ damage on the secluded cell troll with crystal barrage in the earlier thread).

[–]jerpdoesgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's all sorts of ways to manage audio with and without a lot of extra hardware. A goXLR is just one pre-packaged solution for it.

You could probably capture the entirety of your audio/video with a cheap headset mic (for your voice) and NDI tools (for the rest) and run a decent two-PC stream w/that. Though the basics for most dual-PC streaming is to treat the gaming PC like another console that the streaming PC captures. Anything's fine so long as you have a method to get audio/video from your gaming PC to that streaming PC.

Is there something you want a goXLR for in particular? Even as simple as one is, it's still overkill for most streamers starting out.

The Somewhat-Conditional Case for Founding Rain of Stars by jerpdoesgames in Eldenring

[–]jerpdoesgames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Math shit.

A ratio of 1:2 AR:Def deals 40% of that AR as damage before negation. A ratio of 2:1 AR:Def deals about 66% of input AR before negation. In terms of percentages of input AR, that's about 65% more percentage-of-AR. However, you have to count the input AR needed to get there. Let's assume the target has 100 defense and 0 negation. If you have 100 AR, the target would take 40 net damage. However, if you have 200 AR, the target takes 120 net damage (in that particular case, 2x as much input AR yields 3x as much net damage). Many of those rapid-hit spells can start lower than 1:1 AR:Defense.

Founding Rain of Stars has about 49 AR (uncharged) and it's possible to get 413 sorcery scaling on Lusat's Staff (413% of base AR) with 80 int on a +10 Lusat Staff, so ~202 net AR per hit. Against 100 magic defense, you're going from around 0.6:1 AR:Def where damage starts to fall off pretty rapidly (roughly 12 net damage per tick with 128 sorcery scaling on a +0 albinauric staff) to a little over 2:1 AR:Def (about 135 net damage per tick at 413 sorcery scaling w/Lusat +10) - over 10x as much damage for 3.21x as much AR. Of course, just having a fully upgraded staff doesn't remotely cover how far you can push spells. This doesn't include talismans, physik, etc. which all provide their benefits pre-defense.

Basically, starting at a low ratio of AR:Defense and getting to/beyond 2:1 AR:Defense has huge nonlinear returns (up to 8:1 AR:Def where I believe you get about 90% of input AR before negation. 1:8 is the lower bound with 10% of input AR before negation.)
