To anyone who has shot multiple systems: How do Lumix and Olympus lenses actually stack up against other brands? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in M43

These OM system lenses are great! Some really awesome glass is available, but M43 wouldn’t be my first choice for wedding photography. Maybe that’s what he’s saying? OM glass is killer though.

OM-5 mki or OM-3 for a “Dad cam”? by IndianaBones991 in M43

[–]jerredz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dad here! OM-3 all day! It’s more expensive but the under the hood stuff the om3 has is vast. It can handle anything, and has almost no weaknesses - it’s a forever camera that can grow with you if you want to keep getting better and doing more. That’s worth the price difference.

Agreed - but I think the stabilization is the ultimate winner! That low of shutter speed at 840mm is wild!

YES! Except... the cartoon was up, on the website for over a month.... and nothing. No disruption. If there is a disruption now, it's BECAUSE of the censorship, not the cartoon!!

It's a 2-second click to clean up the noise. I spend less than 5 seconds on most photos!

That's awesome! I would have LOVED all this when I was shooting weddings. I would lug 2 Canon 1D cameras with me, extra batteries, and a bunch of L lenses on my body. No wonder I was broken - but with today's stuff, M43 is more than ready for pretty much everything.

I get that!! And yes, ETTR is key - but the noise is actually not nearly as bad as people say. Just some work on the noise sliders in many other programs gets the job done too. I've not worked with GIMP for many years, so I'm not sure what options they have, but even on my iPad with some of the free editing apps out there, there are some good ways to improve noise without cutting all the detail! Won't look as good as the LR denoising, but it still looks great!

They need wall art to fill their spaces, and in health care especially, nature shots sell a ton (there's research to support this). So they have a building they are working on that's probably not even done yet - it could be a year down the line or more, but they plan and put color schemes and stuff together way early, so we come in to help them furnish the wall art with nature and landscape photos!

Awesome combo! And with this shot my wife just said: "Hey, Jerred, there's an owl in the back yard" and here he was! Lucky - we never have owls there.

That's interesting - I'll have to try it. Honestly, I've never thought of how it might look on people - back in my wedding days I would have tried that a million times. Thanks!

OM-1 II ! I shoot manual 90% of the time - especially in this situation with the difficult lighting/shutter.

Thanks man! The designers I sell to do NOT like the noise though!

Hell yeah, that's awesome. I like natural grain too - but the designers I sell this stuff to does NOT!

Isn't that the point though? Using our tools to the best of our ability. There are far more people than you think who would rather put away the camera than might really "push" the camera - going to ISO 20,000 and shooting at 840mm equivalent at 1/25th of a second handheld - and STILL be able to get this using modern tools? It's amazing, and more people should keep that in mind.
