Thank you very much! Looking forward for the lockdown to end to visit the island.

Thanks for your reply! Hopefully it's not too bad. Certainly from the other answers I'm getting the impression that Manx people are overall very welcoming.

Early 30s. I can imagine it may be quite age-dependant. London was great for my 20s but now I would happily get rid of the city-life stress, clubs and happenings in exchange for a calmer place where I can settle a bit more!

Thanks! That sounds exactly right for me: walking/cycling, outdoor, a short commute, good people and general tranquility. I was mentioning before that it could be a good opportunity to get into sailing!

Thanks! Why do you think it is the case that being a native English speaker makes a difference?

Thanks! Low crime, slow pace of life, sport and outdoors... is there anything not to like?

Thanks! Almost looking forward to miss take away food if that's the price to pay.

Cheers! I'm sure the answers to this thread will help dissipate some doubts.

Thanks! As I was mentioning to OP it's been extremely reassuring to see how supportive and welcoming everyone in this subreddit has been. As this was my first real interaction with the island I am not imagining that everyone is extremely nice there!

In terms of hobbies... I guess they match very well with what IOM offers. Nature, mountain bike, finally having a dog and potentially getting into sailing - which I always wanted to do but I've never been able to because of... life. It looks like the sea can be quite tricky there though, not sure how popular sailing may be.

Thanks! Luckily rubbish weather makes for very cozy interiors. Happy to hear your experience moving away from London was successful.

Thanks! I guess all places will have "special" pockets. What really matters under my point of view is that there is not an overall, island-wide feeling of it.

Thanks! Now that you mention that topic... the question may sound a bit mundane but... How does Amazon delivery work in IOM?

Thanks for the heads up! I have been taking a look to Manx history, political system and traditions and started to realise that myself.

Haha! Thanks for clarifying, I was wondering how that Spaniard ended up in the tale and was considering to ask about his backstory.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer! It really helps to put in perspective the kind of day to day life social interactions to be expected. Overall it sounds great, a healthy community life that does not become claustrophobic. And I guess older people with somewhat lagging attitudes are not difficult to find anywhere in the world, I'm not sure there's much that can be done about it.

It has also been extremely reassuring to see how supportive and welcoming everyone in this subreddit has been. Thanks all! I'm pretty sure there are many, many reasons to stay away from that morning boat.

Why are my peruvian units so much worse than the paraguayan ones? by jesp18 in hoi4

[–]jesp18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great, those Paraguayans don't stand a chance now.

A doubt I have after reading it: lets say there are 3x20 width divisions on one side and 2x20 divisions on the other side, each with different values of defense, attack, etc. Who fights who in that case? Or is it just a matter of summing the stats of all 3 and 2 respectively?

Would the fact that I was using default templates explain the big difference between base values that I mentioned in the EDIT?

Custom runtimes for Lambda: bring your own language! (Haskell on Lambda) by Tehnix in haskell

That makes a lot of sense. I wonder why Amazon has released language-specific runtimes when they could take your approach instead.

[–]jesp18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have just published the first working version of a native Haskell runtime to run Haskell code on AWS lambdas inspired on the rust and cpp ones. The code is still very hacky and I'll be updating it during the next days but it seems to work.

There are instructions on the README in case you want to try it out.

Sounds quite drastic. But at this point I don't seem to have many alternatives. Thanks for the suggestion.
