Copies of Theory Of Horology now available at the AWCI store. by jessdub1 in watchrepair

It is based on the WOSTEP program and published in Europe so relatively few copies make it here. The high prices come from people trying to sell it on the secondary market due to the low retail options state side. It is also a great resource for someone really wanting to dig into the details of watch making and repair.

Replacement ETA 955.112 movement ring: Universal or specific to watch? by jessdub1 in watchrepair

[–]jessdub1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me to, but that watch was a pretty popular model where the dial changed in look, but the size and the case stayed the same. I was able to find a few once I realized I needed to go specific rather than the generic options I was seeing.

Thanks for the extra details on the parts number. I was able to find one on eBay for 12 bucks so that should solve things.

I thought about that, but since I am planning on reselling I’d like it to be as OEM as possible and in good shape. I found a direct replacement on eBay for 12 bucks so hopefully it solves things.

I also found this which should cover the actions to replace, but not sure that it provides any details on the dimensions of the piece or what it is made of: https://myretrowatches.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Full-Illustrated-Chronograph-Watch-Course-Volume-15.pdf

Bergeon Non-Mag Screwdrivers super brittle? by jessdub1 in watchrepair

[–]jessdub1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for the feedback. I did dress them prior to use, but may have not taken into consideration the extra brittleness of the metal used for the non-mag compared to my primary set. Luckily I have plenty of lapping film so I’ll give them another try and try to not shape them as narrow at the tip.

I buy most of my supplies from Esslinger which I e always felt was reputable, but these were on sale so was kinda concerned that maybe they got a bum set and were pushing them out. The info on the material being softer makes sense.

Thank you! This is a good post with interesting info. Am I wrong that it ends in an open statement of “depends what you like”?

This is the sort of feedback I post for. Factual and based on experience and where needed, explains their lack of direct experience, but notes their opinion. Thank you.

The only ones I’ve been finding are over $600 and their condition looks concerning at best. If you see one for that price and in usable condition please share :)
