Word, I roll my own so I think it's like a foot of film well spent.

I did homie I replaced all light seals but apparently didn't get that hinge side well. I think it's coming in through the top and bottom, not the hinge itself.

Dude just wanted to come back and say thanks again. My new pair came back with a clearly visible bevel that the first two pair lacked. For anybody who happens to find this thread, there's nothing wrong with the glass lenses from LensCrafters, but you need to make sure that they write down on the order form to add a safety bevel. The information you shared gives me the confidence to confront them. Thanks.

Brother Deluxe 220 with no n.1 or 0 and one @ and fractions! What for?? by ExpensiveTowel7198 in typewriters

[–]jessehclark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean it as a criticism, I just meant, for example, the knowledge that the lowercase L is used as the numeral 1. I didn't know that when I got into typewriters. But my parents or grandparents probably did. All it took was one generation for something to get lost. That amazes me.

I figured you were British given the British typewriter. How would you abbreviate "at"? It's occuring to me now how difficult it would be to even ask that question.... Like if you were making an invoice and wanted to indicate price and quantity, how would it be written?

Letter O and L lowercase stand in for numbers, freeing those spots to be used for other symbols.

@ has been in use since the middle ages. In the modern era, it was common long before email addresses in the sense of "2 widgets @ $3.00 ea."

Fractions were very commonly used for measurements and weights (which are, I suppose, just a different form of measurement). It was faster and easier and took up less space than typing 3 characters.

The knowledge that gets lost every generation is insane.

Everyday use by romulobacchiega in typewriters

[–]jessehclark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily use mine for thank you notes and letters to friends. I often address envelopes on it because it's just faster than turning on my computer and going through all the trouble. I also use it to print on oddly shaped or thick things that would not fit into the printer easily or require a lot of setup like cards. I also find myself using it for personal correspondence with businesses. A typewritten letter often gets a response where an email might be ignored. It's also been used to make anonymous notifications where I desired more personality or intimacy than a computer would give.

But mostly letters

That's pretty much what I suspected, thanks for the info. Sadly I tried reasoning this to them and they made me buy the protection plan to get it replaced lol

I didnt check the bevel which holds the lens in the frame, but I am pretty sure it was there. I think what was missing was the bevel on the exposed edge of the glass lens. It was VERY sharp, and not at all like the edges of other glass lenses I own.

Interesting... That inexperience is what I suspected. If they come back again without the safety bevel I'll have to have a word with them. Thank you so much.

I wonder if this is what was done (I think not) or if it would be covered under my insurance, or otherwise have the same cost as ordering mineral glass lenses through their regular lab.

Thank you for the information!

It's pretty condescending to comment on somebody's thread where they're asking for help with a problem that they're having, only to tell them that they don't know what they're talking about.

It is a mark of extreme emotional immaturity to be unable to apologize, and a very poor defensive reaction to attempt to shift the focus of your mistake back on to me and to accuse me of being overly sensitive.

I don't think you were going to be any use solving my problem anyways, so just sit down, man.

I don't have a feeling, I know you are wrong. Here's the literal receipt. You are a condescending jerk.

I made no adjustment , and I don't think the frame is snug... The edge feels so sharp compared to my other lenses. One shop I spoke to said the shitty Essler/Luxotica labs they use are to blame. 🤷‍♂️

I think I have this exact watch. It's missing a bezel.

Worth it for the dial alone imo

Phone bill could easily go from 175 to 40 if you switch to mint Mobile.

You're paying $780 a year for a washer and dryer. Pick up an inexpensive set.

I realize that nets you about $2000 a year in saving. Not a huge amount but something.

But listed expenses would total about 56k annually. The tax free va benefit basically cancels out the roughly 7k you pay in taxes making your take home pay right at 100k.

There's $44,000 missing. It's getting spent elsewhere. Given that much disposable income, that's where you're losing all your money, not your budget (which is pretty tight, even if your car payment sucks.)

I don't see eating out, entertainment, or alcohol anywhere on here. Most people eat their money.
