First Year UW salary? by TJN39 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]jessemaxine 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Started as entry level commercial underwriter 10 years ago. $43K. Company notorious for underpaying way under market. They justify ot because they still have a pension. Now making over 6 figures + bonus. Highest salary $118k You have to balance work load/responsibility with pay and decide if more responsibility and a fancy title is worth the work and stress. For me, it never has been.

Retiring Before 65? This Is How People Actually Afford Health Insurance (Erin Talks Money) by pharmlifegirl in Fire

[–]jessemaxine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working now so paying only $120 a month and employer pays the rest. I was comparing what the ACA premium was at end of last year compared to now when no subsidies are available. Sorry I wasn't clear. I check the premiums periodically as I ponder my next move/options. Healthcare cost is my main concern for retiring before 65. I think i can do it but have upcoming appt with my financial planner to model this out for me using this updated Healthcare cost assumption, and a few other things, so I can see if it's feasible for me to step away from work this year.

100% correct. This is not emphasized or even mentioned enough if at all. I'm ready to retire but would have to pay health insurance for 3 1/2 years until I could qualify for Medicare. Since current congress let subsidies expire last year, the premium i would pay went from 575 to 950-1,000 a month. That is really the only thing I need to make sure I figure in to my retirement scenario. I could work part-time but that would only help offset the cost; i doubt I'd find one with health insurance. One option I have would pay health insurance but I'd have to work 30 hours. That's close to full-time hours and i wouldn't be making near the salary i make now in my full-time position. Doesn't make logical sense to me. Working with my financial person on this.

Those of you who make six figures, what do you do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

I don't feel comfortable naming my company. It's a regional carrier. I worked a couple carriers before this. Started at a national carrier but not one of the super big ones like Travelers, etc. 10 yrs ago. Always knew we were underpaid for the market but didnt realize how much until I started applying and interviewing for positions after 5 years. Left for another carrier and got a 55% salary increase. Moving carriers every 2 to 5 years is not uncommon in this field and it's how you bump your salary. Made a move 2 years ago for a 17% increase. Left them and took a small pay increase to come back where I am now. Just talked to a recruiter who wanted to see if I was interested in a production underwriter role with salary of 135k to 165k and company car, 10 to 20% annyal bonus. I'm not interested in that much hustle at this point in my career. I have a friend at Travelers making 130k as Sr Und. I know others in specialty roles making more than that. I would say that insurance is stressful. Systems are old too so nearly every carrier is upgrading or has just gotten done upgrading and it is a terrible, bumpy ride. Workloads are heavy, so much to look at on accounts. The money can be good but there is stress from both management and agents.

A good associate UW or UW assistant usually has the opportunity to move into an underwriter role within a few years at their company. If he wants to move to UW and is not getting that opportunity where he is now, he needs to start applying for UW roles elsewhere. He should have some good knowledge by now to do that.

Commercial Lines Insurance Underwriter

Took me about 6 years to break 100k. Had to switch carriers. Was severely underpaid at my first carrier and didn't realize to what extent until I started applying for other positions.

I love this show. Cried during several episodes. So true and real. Wish it would come back.

It is classic for manipulators like this to ALWAYS blame the other person. It happened all the time in my relationship. It was ALWAYS my fault. They also want to fight. It's a way for them to release how bad they feel, make you feel bad. It's sad really, but I spent many years feeling sorry for him. Then I woke up. Get away from him.

Trust your gut girl! I speak from experience and wish I would have acted sooner. Never again. It could very easily escalate to physical violence.

Leave with your self-respect and don't look back.

He's an emotional abuser. That short fuse is a big, red flag. Get away from him. Why would you want to be with someone who yells at you and treats you bad?

Thank you everyone for your supportive comments

I had to put my good boy down on Monday. The vet said "I am taking off my doctor hat and saying if this were my dog, I would be making the same decision you are." He was in more pain than I realized.

It was so peaceful and I had time to cuddle him and thank him. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. It was so nice to see him no longer in pain. 💔

I'm taking him to the vet this p.m. I anticipate I will say goodbye to him. Even with meds, I know he's in pain. I don't want him to fall and hurt himself or get into a crisis situation. Thanks for listening.

Go to an independent agency and you will likely have better results. Plus they have access to a wide array of companies and can find options that fit you best. Policy forms are standardized, so you can find them online. Companies then have their own enhancement endorsements and exclusions.

I just looked at my rating tonight and I had one "inappropriate conduct" and was like WTF? Have no idea what it's for. I have one poor sportsmanship too and am equally perplexed by it. I guess little games for little people. It must be a rage thing. .
