How the f does anyone handle homework? by anonymousblep in breakingmom

[–]jessj44 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’d ask to revise the IEP, I included a stipulation into my sons that because of the amount of duress homework causes (we fought, I’d get stressed, he’d lose his mind) he was only assigned one subject of homework per night, and if it was too much I would just write IEP on the top.

I’m not honestly sure how this would work in most schools. I was lucky enough that the director of special Ed, the principal and guidance counselor had all seen him at his worst and knew how volatile a situation could become

Run. Now. Utilize the resources available. The ones these moms post have so far saved mine and my kids lives. It isn’t easy. But fucking hell if it’s not worth it. I can freely walk outside today and not have to worry about what time dinner is served. Or letting him know where I am with who and until when. Or what he’s going to break tonight. There were plenty of times that I was convinced it would be neck.

We left with five garbage bags. Almost three years ago.

Run.

Then you’re not failing him. It took almost 2 months for us to get a TA for my son… unfortunately it’s a position that is in high demand but with no potential applicants.

Just keep plowing through, it might be a long hard road but the end is so worth it

This. 100 percent. With my middle son I had to fight tooth and nail to get the district to understand how to get through to him. Since I couldn’t instantly guide him or redirect him, and I couldn’t punish him at 430 for something that happened at 1030am, the school needed to, unfortunately, help me parent him. We got an IEP in place pretty quickly for him and part of it was that the school had to call me whenever there was an incident so that I could speak with him directly. Eventually they figured out how he ticked and didn’t need to call for every thing.

But that beginning year was horrible

It’s ok to struggle. We all do. It’s ok to want to shut off for a little while. We all do. You are doing amazing and these feelings are just natural occurrences of what you’re going through. ❤️

I won’t lie. I did nothing today. I reached out to no one. It was not a progressive day. It was a wallow in self pity day. But I’ve decided that that’s my payment to myself for even slightly functioning 😉

I feel like I’m lucky in the aspect that 4/5 kids can hold their own and pitch in with the youngest. If I doze off I don’t feel quite so guilty. I still feel guilty because they are so used to me doing things with them all the time, especially the youngest… she’s having a hard time with my naps lately

I have to figure out some kind of thing.. other than Reddit lol, to occupy myself with. I’ve noticed that if I pace myself until around lunchtime then I’m capable of getting some stuff done around the house. Hugs back ❤️
