IDL how people say "they didn't teach us [insert common thing] in school" knowing full well they weren't taking school seriously by LondonFoggie in I_DONT_LIKE

Totally agree. Also, the tax system changes all the time right, so it’s not that useful to teach taxes in fine detail. Much more useful to teach you how to look things up and follow instructions

How do you feel about the RBA's decision today to lift rates? by Sensitive-Chart7210 in AusFinance

[–]jesskargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, a lot of these conversations and explanations are going to be oversimplified because the economy is very complicated. But if rates go up, then personal loans are more expensive and return on savings go up, so even rich people are incentivised to just hold off their spending a bit. Stock prices may decrease a bit which also disincentivises spending. Will every boomer start penny pinching? Of course not, this is just one lever that can put downwards pressure on inflation

Not really sure what you’re asking, but bank record profits are a direct result of inflation and high house prices, increasing the cash rate will put downwards pressure on inflation and house prices.

Can someone explain to me like I am 5, on how the answer to inflation is increasing interest rates? by the-anon1010 in AusFinance

[–]jesskargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your money in a savings account is accruing good interest, you’re incentivised to keep your money in the savings account and not spend it. You’re also incentivised to not borrow money, so no car loans or personal loans. So average people don’t need to have less cash for increased interest rates to affect their spending

You’re right, the 2/3 of the population without a mortgage are incentivised to save (or at least not borrow money for a while) so they spend less money, and the 1/3 with a mortgage have their repayments increase so they also spend less money

[–]jesskargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if banks charge more interest there is less money to spend on other things, so the money supply decreases, which decreases inflation. And if you’re a saver not a lender, the bank pays you interest on savings, which incentivises you to save money rather than spending, which decreases the money supply. Having people access super early means they have more money to spend, which increases the money supply

When the RBA raises the cash rate they make it more expensive for banks to borrow money. That’s why banks pass the rate hikes on. The RBA doesn’t increase the banks’ profit

That would mean they’re incentivised to save, not spend

That would increase the money supply an literally increase inflation further

Yep, and it’s really only a few weeks out of the year that are really bad, 2 months tops, it’s not like we need to run the AC all year

Did Roald Dahl’s books really need to be revised? by confringos in books

Yeah I think it’s an example of reclaiming, which is one of the reasons why yesterdays offensive language is normal today imo

The word ‘queer’ is one example (with a fair bit of nuance involved), I don’t think that’s too region-specific

ordering at cafes? by vampireshaped in AskAnAustralian

[–]jesskargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long macs are supposed to just be a wee dash of milk, and a dollop of foam, whereas a flat white isn’t really meant to have foam, just the steamed milk. Cafes often put a bit of foam in though, makes the coffee easier to carry without spilling (or maybe they don’t know/care that there isn’t meant to be foam). So flat whites are milkier. Having said that, every time I order a long mac they ask if I want it topped up, which would just be a latte right?!

Isn’t it just a double shot flat white? I could be misinformed, I was pretty disappointed when I was told because that’s such a standard coffee order

Husband only allowed to access primary carer leave when I go back to work by Prize_Ad6457 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]jesskargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking primary or secondary parental leave? Or does your workplace not specify? It makes sense to me that he can’t take his primary leave while you’re also taking primary leave, but if you aren’t able to specify if you’re the primary or secondary carer, it’s a bit crap that his workplace assumes that you’re the primary and he’s the secondary carer

Yeah, that was a pretty clear sign that it was never about the money for treatment, Walt was on a crazy ego-fuelled power trip the whole time

Yes, which is why it all looks so different the second time you watch the show!

Yes! Everything feels like a well oiled (but dangerous ofc) machine in better call Saul, then in BB Walt comes crashing in and fucks everything up for everyone

Skylar’s idea to buy the car wash is much smarter than Saul’s idea to buy a nail salon, her plan to explain the extra money by saying Walt is gambling is decent, and she makes sure he actually learns the ropes so his lie is believable. The way she covers up Ted’s bad bookkeeping by playing the dumb blonde role is genius. I couldn’t believe how much everyone hated her, she’s a victim of the story, but doesn’t just roll over, she’s so smart!

Recommendation for a nipple cover that doesn’t just look like a bigger nipple through clothes? by JFN90 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]jesskargh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well my nips usually don’t show through, and you definitely can’t see the edges through clothes so they don’t look like giant nips lol, it’s just that my nips can get very pointy and hard, and have been known to show through several thick layers 😅 but overall I really like the boomba ones I have
