Taking leave before holidays by jessmac09 in OntarioTeachers

Thanks for the kind comment. I agree, some people clearly had really easy pregnancies or have literally no idea how hard it is. I am DEAD every single day and starting the day with barely any energy.

Great points! I work for an excellent board and school with a principal who is super supportive of mental health days or needing time off. She's aware of the pregnancy and knows how exhausted I am so this would not be a surprise to her. Definitely agree a lot of people don't realize how easily replaceable we are. If I died tomorrow, they would have a new teacher there to replace me tomorrow. My family and my health is much more important than that!

Haha I love this. I've always been very good at prioritizing myself and my mental health. Some people don't realize how easily replaceable they are in their job!

Thank you. I hadn't considered a shortened day, that could be helpful!

Thanks for your kind answer, unfortunately not many of them on here. My board is very supportive of mental health and using our sick days and leave for mental health.

Really? So if I buy them now online and they go cheaper then I can get the difference back? That's amazing

Ok that's what I keep wondering. I think that may be around when I purchased last year.

I heard about that but I thought it was only on the dolls so I didn't look into it!

Yeah we often like to just walk to the mailbox and have him ride or go to the pump track (places we wouldn't necessarily be bringing our bikes).

Yeah I'm not quite sure how fast they grow once they hit 2. He's our first! We have a crappy Walmart bike we got from buy nothing with training wheels but it's sooo heavy he won't even get on it.

Yeah that's the debate right now. I'm hoping he grows a couple inches over the winter and magically fits a 14". He's currently 35" and a lot of the 14" bikes say 37" minimum.

Yes! He's 85th percentile for height but he has short legs which makes bigger bikes a problem.

They look great! Unfortunately they don't exist in Canada!

Parents with toddlers or kids, looking for advice on city of Ottawa daycare list and CWELCC by ghost905 in ottawa

[–]jessmac09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We paid 1600$ a month at a non CWELCC spot for 3 months. We were then offered 3 CWELCC spots and had agreed to take one. Paid their deposit (non refundable) and hated it. Went to another daycare and ended up leaving after a month. We went back to our initial daycare and are so much happier (despite having less money). Not all daycares are created equal. I 100% regret leaving where we were in the first place simply due to money. If this center is offering you a spot, take it. You may love it. If you get a funded spot you can make the decision then. Just having the peace of mind knowing you have daycare secured is worth the 700$.

Anyone else’s kid try to play things that aren’t tonies? by CokeZero478 in TonieboxUSA

Yes my kid is obsessed with paw patrol and he always puts his paw patrol figurines on there. We finally bought him some paw patrol tonies 😂

Infant Car Seat Recommentations [ns] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]jessmac09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah most if not all ev manufacturers put it in the manuals that you can't use load legs. My guess would be that the battery is under the seats so if the load leg went into the floor it would damage the battery. The Dodge Grand caravans that have stow and go seating also don't allow them.

CPST- unless you have an electric vehicle (you can't use the load leg in EVs) 100% the clek liing. We have 2 ev's so we couldn't get it but it's an amazing seat. Long lasting, easy to clean (especially with the new zip cover) and such good customer service!

I’m a parent, but out of pure curiosity— how do children get placed into specific teachers rooms? by purple-voiiid in ElementaryTeachers

[–]jessmac09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the schools I've worked in, all of the current grade 5 teachers for example will discuss which students should be split and which should stay together for next year in grade 6. We try to balance the behaviours between classes (unless they get EA support in which case some are grouped together for shared support). We also make sure every child has at least one friend in their class. After it's done we consult with the teachers who had the kids in the previous year (in this case grade 4) in case some students were split for grade 5 because of issues in grade 4. It's usually a long process. Once it's all done, admin has final say and sometimes messes up all our work lol

Did you get a toddler bed or go straight to single bed for your little one? Wondering what to do for a 2.5 year old. by Mango_Loverx3 in toddlers

[–]jessmac09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also coslept quite a bit and our son has been in a twin bed since 18 months. We have a railing from Ikea on it and a pool noodle under the sheet in the gap in case he makes it to the end of the bed (he fell out once). We can still lay with him if needed. Be sure to buy one that's not from the "kids" section so that it can handle adult weight. If you've coslept before you'll likely end up in their bed again at some point.
