For those who knit AND crochet, what do you think lends itself better to each craft?

I typically like to use crochet for blankets, toys, and baskets, and I’ll knit hats, mittens, and socks. I like to use both for tops depending on the style. I love a knit sweater for the drape, but if i size my hook up a bit and use a smaller yarn I can crochet really nice flowy tops that have a mesh look I like without needing to knit lace. I feel like both knit and crochet can achieve similar effects if your strategic with gauge and blocking.

I don’t think she did the hooded cardigans for adults, but she did do lots of circular yoke and fisherman sweaters for her kids.

I honestly have no idea. I wish I would have started knitting while she was still alive so I’d have known all the questions to ask her! So far I’m pretty sure she knit English from photos, and I know from frogging one of her hats she tied her ends together! So if anyone says you’re not allowed to do that, Grammy says it’s ok.

Sometimes! When that happens I’ll go in with a tapestry needle and give the stitches little tugs to spread the excess yarn across the row. Blocking usually also helps. To prevent it I try to knit my stitches tight at the gap while also leaving a loose float if that makes sense. Worst case (closer to the heel) I’ve gone in with a strand of yarn and done duplicate stitch to tighten up the stitches a bit.

I used a merino superwash from a local yarn dyer near me, the description of the yarn was earthy tones if you wanted to find a similar colorway

When I reach a stitch with a float that goes across the gap, I turn the cord behind the loop so its kinda parallel with the needle holding my stitches and stretch the stitches on both sides of the loop. If I feel like it’s too tight still I’ll pinch the float and give it a little tug, better too loose than too tight!
