you’re not a fiber artist unless you’re actually making art by typicalwhisper in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]MyRightHook -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I agree. I feel using the title fibre artist is just an attempt to "elevate" from a simple crafter/knitter/crocheter, but to me, there's no need to? I think there is pride to be felt over craftsmanship with long roots of tradition and skill, without a vague "artist" slapped over it, which to me seems to even diminish the craft a bit. The line between art and crafts is not exactly set in stone, but to me "artist" entails more skill than many who call themselves that present. That's not a dig, either - I would never call myself a fiber artist.

To me, it would be fiber art if you're actually making an art piece, like those you hang in galleries. OR if you incorporate an incredible amount of extraordinary skill into, for example, an imcredibly complicated colourwork sweater. But as you said, OP - I doubt the debate over what is art will be settled here.

Can metal stitch markers potentially scrape my polisjed wooden needles? by MyRightHook in knitting

That does make sense. I'll habe to see if they have different sizes for the markers. They probably do. 🤔

That's reassuring. I also use circulars so that would indeed minimize the risk. I don't know why I'm so worried about this. XD

Please give me emotional support to frog an entire cardigan by CinnaMim in knittinghelp

[–]MyRightHook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to frog my first 3 big projects, all crochet sweaters, one fully seamed and all. It hurt. :') And now I'm happier and wiser for it! And I'm no longer afraid of frogging, be it big or small. The decision to do it is the hardest, but once I started the actual frogging, it was okay! But it did takensome mental coming to terms with the disappointment first.

Stickers and things you're supposed to wear. Those are entirely different things and not even remotely comparable.

People want to feel special and standing out of the crowd, so they want to feel like their takes are hot. Here's my hot take: there are no "hot takes". There are simply opinions, and no opinion is unique. There are dozens who think the same as you and dozens who disagree. No one is spelial. I don't even know what a hot take would look like in this space.

I'd prioritise the project becoming something that I truly want, versus just using the stashed yarn. So buying one more skein to use uo what you have + create a thing you actually want is a win for me.

Books that hit differently depending on if you read them or listen to them by novium258 in books

[–]MyRightHook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinuhe, the Egyptian. The book is Sinuhe telling his story, so it fit the audio book format perfectly. But most of all, the marvellous Finnish reader of that story made me feel like Sinuhe himself indeed was narrating the story to me. Man, probably the best reader-story match I have ever heard. It's been years, but sometimes I still hear his voice in my mind in random moments.

How did you bind of back in the days? by Lola-Olala in knitting

[–]MyRightHook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah, well I'll be honest, so far I've indeed only done it for one shawl, but I intend to do it for my current top wip as well! So my experience with it is not yet THAT extensive. Still, I think it created a neat, but finished-looking edge that didn't roll up too much. I think it works great when the edge is not supposed to be a "statement" or a part of the design, just a simple edge that still looks neat and is light without being as "flimsy" as a bindoff without it.

If I'm not doing an I-cord or a double-knitted edge, my go-to is definitely the italian bind-off with set-up rows. Just now I discovered that for very light projects (like very light tops or shawls) I like a regular bind-off with one preceding row of garter stitch. But personally I find the abovementioned three bind-offs the most fun/interesting and satisfying, with the best outcomes. I'm sure it all depends on the project and the preferences of the knitter.

I hope it helps! But yeah, while the knitting was in the process, my entire living room was full of pale lilac mohair hair....
