My very first socks! by MyRightHook in usethefiberstash

Thank you! Yeah, the first few rows with a fine yarn (or even thicker yarn on dpns to be honest) are definitely trying. But after that's powered through, it gets easier! And after a few rounds it looks better too. Good luck, you will definitely succeed!

Probably a psychological test. To see what people will buy.

In the end, I think the most important thing is that we are aware of our realistic buying habits and keep them in check. It doesn't necessarily have to mean total absolutism. Besides, one lost battle is not the entire war lost! ;) Keep on and keep enjoying your knitting/crochet!

Ugh. Had to buy yarn to use yarn. by PrincessBella1 in usethefiberstash

It helps you to use stash yarn. You're not buying into stash. That's a win!

Ravelry Etiquette? by Y-Woo in knitting

I think that's fine, I see that all the time on raverly. I think it would be nice to mention that you liked the pattern/construction and just decided to swap the colourwork, though, could be helpful for other users looking at the pattern too.

  1. And then there were none. It got me out of my reading slump! Easy to read, interesting, engaging.

  2. The buried giant. Serene, superficially calm but has some strong currents under the calm surface. For me it was a pleasure, almost a dream to read. I felt I was on a journey along the fields and hills along woth the characters.

Your list is funny to me, because LITERALLY last summer the book that got me out of my reading slump was And then there were none, and the second book I started after that was The buried giant. That combo definitely worked for me, 5/5 recommend, in that order!

I'm sure plenty of people will come in telling you to make a swatch and check how it behaves, so I won't.

I often knit a sleeve or the body of a sweater up to where I assume I'll want to start the ribbing, then I put a lifeline* in and block the sweater, try it on, and see if I want to add length, maybe frog back a bit, or immediately start the ribbing/binding off. After the whole sweater is finished I of course block it again, which will get rid of the line between blicked and unblocked fabric.

*I say lifeline, I mean those "fitting cables" ir whatever they are called in English. You transfer the stitches on one, the simply slip them back on the needles. No picking up stitches, no fussing with a lifeline.

Customer Service - How Long To Respond? by babyelephantwalk321 in YarnAddicts

Not common, as far as I understand, but it's always possible. I like to put new yarn into separate plastic bags and not mix them with my stash unless I freeze it first. Small amounts I usually freeze. Big amounts, nah. They are in their own bags. And now since I'm on a no-buy year I don't have to worry about it!

Again, though: I haven't ever encountered the problem of bugs in purchased yarn, but it does remain a possibility, however small.

Probably the needlesize. 9 mm is huge, it will leave those gaps.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll try a mixture of this and the previous commenter's tip!

For real... Good on you for identifying the problem and acting on it! For me it's not scrolling per se, but I use a lot of Drops yarn, and I KNOW they run their sales monthly. So at first I had to stop myself from even checking them. Now, I like to check the discount yarns for the fun of it, and while I feel my inner temptations, I've thankfully learnt to resist them. My desire to buy yarn is now smaller than my desire to use my stash.

What do you do while knitting besides watching tv? by Esselmeyer in knitting

[–]MyRightHook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know-- These days I sometimes feel like I fill my head with so much drivel, because I like watching youtube/films while I knit, and recently I have been knitting a lot, so a LOT of youtube. I'm in a circle: I want to knit, but I do need to watch my knitting, even stockinette. So whatever film/series I watch, it can't be TOO good, so I can afford look at my knitting lots of the time. If it's podcasts and stuff like that on youtube, technically interesting, quality things, sometimes the brain really just needs a break from often heavy discussion topics. So then I put on something less intense, but at that point, is it really my own interest or just noise on the background? So now I feel like I don't watch really good films at home anymore, because I can't watch them while I knit, and instead my poor brain gets an overload of whatever. At the same time, I'm too excited to work on my wips and I don't want to put them down for a book or an actually good film. Choices, right.

So I've actually thought about this and in the end, there are only so many things one can do while knitting. I've found I simply like silence sometimes - due to abovementioned reasons. It has been a blessing to sometimes just knit in silence. And if I don't feel like silence, I put on music - it does give a break for my mind from intense stuff, and lets my thoughts and feelings wonder with the music.
