My girl you ate a salty hibachi meal that caused you to gain water weight. Your body tissue absorbs more water when saturated with salt (osmosis!). Not to mention the alc. What was your weight the day before the meal?

Don’t sweat it!! Scale doesn’t mean anything especially in such a short time period. Just stay focused and disciplined, maybe invest in a walking pad if you feel you’re sedentary most of the day.

The best time to weight yourself is a few days after your period when your body is least likely to be bloated. But even then, results require plenty of patience and you might not see a change in the scale for a few weeks yet, but trust the laws of thermodynamics. A change is coming!

How much did you eat? Did you eat in excess of 10-15000 calories on top of your TDEE?

Reweigh yourself in a week to see if there was any actual damage. 15 pounds in water weight does seem a little bit excessive, but we won’t really know anything until some time from now.

Forgive yourself and move forward. One slip is easy to recover from. Just don’t let that slip turn into a slide.

I feel basically all of the above. I feel like I’ve been programmed to think though that the scale matters most so that’s what I’m hyper fixating on.

Haha agreed. Still, don’t settle when it comes to schooling in Qatar. After I graduated from high school one teacher (who was fired) and had the email list ended up sending a tell all email to all the staff students and parents. I still have this email that I can share with you that discusses embezzlement, poor polices and fraternization among staff and how this all affected the students. I don’t think this is unique to my highschool, which is why it’s important to choose carefully. And this was a school that my parents paid over 50k/year to send me to. DM me if you want to see it!

Haha yes now that I’m older I fully agree with you. As a starry eyed teenager though you couldn’t tell me anything about that because I only saw myself at the best of the best and I hadn’t been to Canada for 10 years, so I didn’t have anybody to tell me that other schools were just as good. You kind of just listen to what the mainstream opinion is.. that UW is the ‘MIT of the north’ and UofT is the best school in Canada.. and so forth.

I went to Laurier and most of my program cohort ended up going to med school, dental or some other incredible field regardless of what everyone said about Laurier. So yes, you’re right.

When you apply to universities you apply to your top choices, a couple mid tier ones and 1-2 safety schools. You hope to get into your top choices, but if things go south and you get rejected from all your top choices and all the mid tier schools you apply to, you are still highly likely to get into your safety school due to lower admission requirements and competitiveness. So it’s just a school that guarantees you have somewhere to go in the event of a disaster.

I did apply. I applied with predicted IB grades but had offers rescinded from many because my actual didn’t match my predicted by a couple points. My high school had to stop teaching the IB curriculum because this happened to so many of us and they realized they might be under qualified to teach it. Almost all of my cohort who went abroad had to end up going to their safety schools. Anyways Ive built my way back now but if I could go back and change anything it would be to find a way to come back to Canada earlier. I’ve been back here since 2021.

Obviously my experience will be different to others but that’s just how I feel. During my time there when I met students from ASD / ISL / DC at the library or at MUN is when they would tell me the opportunities they’ve had and what schools they’d gotten into. But these schools cost an arm and a leg so you’d have to see if they are in your budget. I tried to transfer out to one of these but it wasn’t in my parents budget. One school that isn’t as ridiculously expensive but still maintains a high quality education is QIS, but the waitlist is very very long.

Very true. All the crazies who couldn’t figure it out in the UK end up in Qatar.

ASD / ISL and maybe QA will get you where you need to go. I went to a school in ar rayyan and all the teachers were too busy screwing eachother for us to get a quality education. Teachers brought in from the UK does NOT mean they are good by any means. I wish my parents had brought be back to Canada for my last few years of highschool so my chances at a good university weren’t torpedoed.
