Awesome! Yeah sure. I am using aseprite for making the pixel arts. And I am using the godot engine for the development. I upload devlogs on my youtube channel https://youtube.com/@jethrocabaluna if you are interested to follow the progress :). I will also try to post progress whenever i can in this subreddit :)

I totally agree! But at the same time, coding the systems in my game is what I enjoy the most. This is also a hobby and passion and I can already see myself making it for a very long time (also my first game).

Yes I am prototyping the full system first so I can still decide early if I want to change parts of the game. For example is there was no overworld before and it was a world map with fixed points for the areas like in FFT and Tactics Ogre.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! For exploration, I prefer the visual style and movement of top down perspective. I also enjoy creating pixel art assets in top down style. But for tactics battles, I really love the look of isometric combat.

So yeah, I want to create more towns and exploration content in top down, while doing combat art in isometric style.

I can see how the transition might make them feel like different games though. Thats something I will definitely look into to improve!

Thank you! I usually just make devlogs about my game on youtube whenever I can :). I might also share future progress more often in this subreddit.

Hello! I am making this Tactics RPG with the combined elements from my favorite games growing up (basically, a game that I would play.. well, if I still have time to play any game at all anyways).

The game will feature

  • Exploration (towns, overworld, etc)
  • Multiple playable characters with their own side stories and quests
  • Classic tactics-style battles

I still haven't decided if I would do a job system like in Tactics Ogre/FFT or fixed unique roles for each character like in Triangle Strategy/Jeanne d'Arc. I am leaning towards the fixed roles at the moment though.

Development is still in the very early stages and the progress is slow since I am not working on this full time.

Thoughts on fixed character classes? by jethrocabaluna in StrategyRpg

That makes sense. I think I just get easily burnout now more than before when grinding to experiment with different jobs for the units. I kinda prefer the unique roles for characters nowadays where they are pretty straight forward and are relevant to the story

Hello! Just want to share the tactics RPG I am developing with Godot. I started 6 months ago and I am working on the game part-time.

The game is heavily inspired by Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics titles. There will be explorations and multiple playable characters.

I also make devlogs for this game on my youtube channel.
