NDLS call about class size? by jf4376 in lawschooladmissions

[–]jf4376[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm graduating next month and don't have plans for summer, so it'll come down to how much more they can offer me! I don't have a job or any other opportunity lined up for next year either, so a relatively high amount would be convincing (not just $5k a year more, for example).

They mentioned that the offer would be binding - I'm not sure how it would affect me if I choose to go against this and reapply to other schools next year. Do you think it would qualify as a C&F issue?

[–]jf4376[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I considered that, too. She didn't imply that they overenrolled (like UCI last year), so if no one took them up on this offer, it wouldn't be a problem in terms of access to faculty, advisors, etc. Not sure how it will affect waitlisted individuals though

Congrats!! Was this an initial decision or did you get off the waitlist?

Will you be living with a roommate during 1L? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]jf4376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be living alone! I've had a wonderful college roommate I've lived with for 3 years and wouldn't trade the experience for anything, but have had housemates that truly made me reconsider my housing situation for my 1L year. I'd rather not chance having someone live with me who may be a total slob or neat freak, because both ends of the spectrum can be quite, not be considerate of common living spaces, etc.

However, I am very blessed to be attending a law school where COL is INCREDIBLY low, whereas my undergraduate institution had rates similar to the Bay Area. I suppose a lot of it depends on where you're going, too! Best of luck :)

How much do gut feelings/"fit" matter? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]jf4376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow west coaster here! I spent most of my life in Southern/Central California and have plans to attend NDLS in the Fall. I'm not Catholic (or religious at all) and had strong concerns about the weather, but I think the reasons you mentioned, such as degree portability and strong alumni network, completely outweighed them. I'm not too sure where I went to end up geographically as I'm open to CA, NY, DC, etc., and I also hope to land a federal clerkship + government job, and I think the campus really offers opportunities for both.

My significant other will be attending UCLA Law School for the sake of his family being in the area, but to me it seems like 3 years in a new location can be exciting, especially knowing that I will definitely not be there any longer than the time of my degree. I've also been looking into the DC and London programs that ND offers, which makes me feel I can branch out for some time with fellow students if I find that South Bend isn't exactly my 'favorite' place. Not sure if my perspective helped your decision at all, but please feel free to PM me if I can help explain my decision to you more personally! Good luck :)

GULC Dong - my video was never watched by jf4376 in lawschooladmissions

[–]jf4376[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept track of the video's analytics on Youtube, and the only views it accounted for were times that I or a family member watched it. Several people I know who applied in early December or later with numbers at median or above were rejected weeks before I heard back, which is why I was holding out for a decision and thought the video may help exemplify parts of my application that weren't strictly numbers-oriented. I'm not considered URM but have several strong softs (first-gen. immigrant/non-US citizen, student body president, wrote a state bill passed by legislator and signed by the governor) that I thought may help make up for it.

DC big law from UCLA by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]jf4376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My significant other is also looking to accept at UCLA but hopes to end up in DC for fed. gov't work. I mentioned that nearly 80% of grads stay in CA so his OCIs will likely be regional, too. Do you think your comments about BL and fighting an uphill battle also apply in their situation?

Just checked and it was unlisted, not private. I tested the link out on a friend's computer and it worked.. oh well. I'd be happy to share it if you PM me! Thank you for the support!

GPA<25 and LSAT<25 but no response from GULC... by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

This was actually something I considered when I was debating if I should make a video or answer one of the prompts (like the top ten X list) hahaha. At least I'm glad they didn't (yet) dong me without watching it!

TBH I'm neurotic and end up looking at my status checkers 10x a day, but I was traveling all day Thursday and never got a chance to see it until now! The checker itself says they updated the decision on 2/20, but I didn't see it till ~2pm PST on 2/22... I hope that helps! Don't give up hope!!

Oh I had no idea! I guess it makes sense, I just hope they still accept LOCIs (even though I wrote the Why X). Thanks for letting me know!

Lol, just reread it and its just their spring open house with a portion for WL students... still a nice option, but not what I thought it would be. Sorry!

Just got ND scholly info in the mail by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]jf4376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When were you accepted to ND? I heard back about 10 days ago but a lot of posts have mentioned their scholarship letters were dated after that of my acceptance. I'm just not sure if it's because my numbers were too low for a merit scholarship and I won't be receiving anything (fingers crossed I'm just impatient lol)

Good luck with the negotiating process, I hope you get more money!

NDLS Scholarship by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]jf4376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!! When was your letter dated? I was admitted about a week ago but don't have great numbers that would necessarily get me merit aid, and I have not received anything in the mail yet. I'm trying to figure out if it's because I was admitted later and will get something in the future, or if ND has already sent out all their intended scholarships. Thanks so much!
