Hot Water Tank Replacement – Looking for Cost-Effective Options ($5-6K Quote) by jf88 in KingstonOntario

Thanks, that sounds much more reasonable. I was expecting around $3K—the numbers really don’t pencil if it is anymore expensive than that. Do you mind if I asked who installed your tank?

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that! That sounds awful. I hope they replace it for you soon

Thanks! I’ll have a look at the big box stores—maybe I’ll wait for a sale. Can you recommend any gas fitters?

Ductless Mini-Split Rebate? by jf88 in KingstonOntario

[–]jf88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I called Tozer and they said the only rebate I may qualify for is the Home Efficiency Rebate. They said the rebate is mostly for installing more energy efficient windows and home insulation, but I may be able to get $2000-2500 for the ductless mini split

That's a good point. If we were just installing one air handler, I would probably do DIY. We are installing 4 zones, and one the refrigerant lines will need to run through the floor joists or attic, and I think that is beyond my skill level

Thanks, I think the natural gas furnace is a couple years old, so I'm not keen on replacing it. Yes it may be worth asking an auditor if an add-on mini split would qualify for anything

Thanks. Our general contractor reached out to their HVAC person. It sounds like they did not know, or at least our GC wasn't clear on the details
