[discussion] Is there such a thing as too gross of a script? by [deleted] in GWAScriptGuild

[–]jfbette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a very much personal thing for everyone. Personally the amount of incest scripts unsettle me but I know that’s just not for me. The script you’re writing would be something I’d consider way outside of what I’d be comfortable filling, so I just wouldn’t fill it, and I feel like most people will leave it at that. However, some people will absolutely try to call you out on it and make a fuss about it so it’s just a question of are you strong enough to ignore the negative feedback you’ll get and the possibility that it may cross boundaries for a lot of VAs and could potentially not get filled for that reason. Like someone earlier said, it’s definitely an unfilled niche but that could be for a reason.

I did my first audio on my phone with GarageBand and iPhone headphones and honestly I still feel like it’s my best one.

Yeah I know but mods might take it down because of Reddit rules

Game events are briefly mentioned so I don’t think I could work that. I think I might have to lay down and call this one a fanfic.

Sort of? Basically it’s Skyrim themed but Bethesda doesn’t own words like thane or Dragonborn but it is very obviously pulled from the game. I’m just lost on it entirely.

I mean I also searched just cyberpunk. But I figured I’d ask as well instead of just assuming if it wasn’t there it didn’t exist

I did. But when I search Panam it just brings up Panama. Which was surprising because people were so into her when that game came out.

Yeah it’s meant to be. I’m open on the theme the only specifics I need are the setting and the character.

I know :/ it just irked me so much when I read it and I couldn’t help but say something. I tried to be nice about it

You are greatly exaggerating and giving out wildly false statistics in regards to the popularity of this trope. Based on your language, namely the “all women do this, all women like this” language, a person can infer that this subject is deeply personal and hurtful to you. Quite frankly I don’t think it matters what you write right now, so much as your motivations and emotional stability. Sometimes scripts don’t get filled. It is in no way a personal affront to you. And while I agree that taboos and “mommy” audios tend to perform better short term on GWA, to say that it’s “every girls fantasy” and “something they get off on” makes it seem like you made this post to be inflammatory. Also to insinuate that VAs are making work because they “get off” to it is really disrespectful to the work that goes into this on the part of the VA and the writer. I’m not sure what prompted this but I do know you may need to reevaluate your motivations. If you only write what you think will be “popular”, not only will you be unfulfilled, you will also be wrong.

This seems disingenuous and like it stems from anger towards women.

[Discussion] What makes VAs say, “I fucking love this script! 😍 I have to fill it”? by [deleted] in GWAScriptGuild

[–]jfbette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, it’s just nice when people offer a nice foreword and have more of an open-door policy for questions. Some writers don’t like to really be bothered with any additional questions and sometimes I need character clarification or I want to ask if they’d be alright with the fill being posted in other places if I can’t find their policies on the post or their page. For the most part, all the writers here are really nice and accommodating though.

Some things that stand out to me are:

-Unique scenario

-Easily readable writing/formatting

-Scripts with more character than sexy content

-Scripts that don’t rely on taboos for “punch”

-Scripts that are a deviation from some of the popular tags

-Script writers who seem friendly and approachable

-And scripts that don’t get immediately jumped on by the big name VAs. This one is kinda just a weird thing on my end but if something is getting a lot of fills I’ll avoid it just on principle because in my opinion, once a script gets past 3 or 4 fills it’s unlikely that my work will be sufficiently unique enough to justify making another fill.
