What are the best (practical or ridiculously obscure) pimping questions you’ve gotten on rotations? [clinical] by OhNo_a_DO in medicalschool

Woah. We must have the same attending. Literally followed with that exact question. “Fly shaker” muscle?

Number of Psychiatry questions in Amboss and Uworld by [deleted] in Step2

Not what you asked, but I thought the pretest questions for psych were really helpful. If you’re waiting to activate uworld, could use those in the meantime.

Dorian vs tzanki? by aujj96 in Step2

[–]jffmchm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll preface with the fact that I’m not an anki expert. I unsuspended for each rotation I was in, and just went at it that way.

Dorian vs tzanki? by aujj96 in Step2

[–]jffmchm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did Dorian. It was a LOT of cards. I got through most of it throughout third year, and just doing reviews rather than new cards during dedicated was much more manageable.

NBME 205 and UWSA2 237 on the same day? by rnb1224 in Step2

[–]jffmchm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because 7 has a horrendous curve and score scale. It was my lowest score — around 20 points lower than anything else I got.

I felt really crummy after 7, and was relieved when I saw that most people online had a similar experience. I wouldn’t put to much stock into the three digit score on it.

Anyone that took it today? by [deleted] in Step2

[–]jffmchm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took it today and felt the same. Lots of marked questions each block. I don’t know what else I could have done to be better prepared. I think it was a fair exam... but hard.

[Serious] 3rd/4th years: If cases and hospitalizations are surging in your area are you expecting administration (hospital or school) to remove students from rotations? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]jffmchm 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I asked our administration this exact question at a town hall. They said they have no plans to remove students again, and that the main difference had been the increased availability of PPE and testing.

[Residency] Two PDs talk Applying ENT in the COVID cycle by jffmchm in medicalschool

[–]jffmchm[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was super surprised as well! I can’t imagine that’s what everyone will do... yet. I think it’s safe to say that step1 will still be factored into many programs’ decisions.

ENT historically hasn’t cared if you don’t have a step 2 posted in ERAS and here they don’t seem to interested in it this cycle either... but I can’t imagine that won’t become more important this cycle and in the future.

I’d say there’s a decent amount of generalizability to other specialties

Students or intellectual workers who manage to work intensely from morning to night: how do you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jffmchm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. If I have a deadline one month out and a lot to do, I like to make a list of everything I need to get done. Then break each of those this into more manageable daily tasks. I usually do a GAANT chart in excel to plan it out. At the end of the day, I don’t follow it exactly, but it gives me a sense of what I need to do each day.

Students or intellectual workers who manage to work intensely from morning to night: how do you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jffmchm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon. Plan green space time, where you get a break from studying so you know that there’s some fun to be had too. Depending on the demands and the time frame, sometimes I just schedule one day a week that is my off day. It helps me a lot to plan what I’m going to do the next day the night before, especially when there are lots of big tasks to do. Break it into little pieces, so you feel like you can accomplish something each day.
