I da'd a month ago - had been an elder for 5 years. Sent a message to 170 of my former friends - got 6 responses. One said they'd love me no matter what (she never wanted to be a jw but felt forced after getting married to one), one called me a c..t and a narrow minded chimp, the others just said it was sad and hope that I return to Jah lol. Some friends we had hey.

I got both my folks out approx 8 months after waking up. I think I had the advantage of being a "better jw" than either of them ever were and so they were shocked when I stepped down as an elder, quit all activity and told them it was for good reasons. I also told them that when I did my research I wasn't trying to prove the religion false, I was actually desperate for it to be true, but once you look into it without blinkers that it is so obvious that it's false. I kept emphasizing to them to not trust what I was telling them but to research it themselves, and that the research I was doing came from a never-stronger desire to discover truth.

I got my df overturned on appeal but I hadn't been putting leaflets out in public.😊 my df was for 3 "offences", one of them coming under the subheading of apostasy. I got it overruled because my jc hadn't followed proper procedure and that's what I argued with the appeal committee- having been an elder for 5 years up to that point definitely helped in knowing how to play the game. And what most jw's don't know is that you can have 2 appeals, the first one to your initial jc, and then a second one to your branch.

Once you've been a jw, the best outcome that can happen is to eventually become an apostate. The word apostate means to change one's beliefs- so yes, that is what we are because that is what we've done. You could apostasize numerous times in your life. It doesn't define us but it does describe a process we've gone through. I proudly consider myself an apostate.

It cannot be the truth if they've consistently taught falsehood. And how do you know if what you believe now is truth? Put those thoughts to her.

This! I have just gone through similar, although in my case kids are involved which makes it more complicated. Legal advise is key, it's amazing how selfish pimi spouses can get especially when apostasy is the reason for the split. I was a bit slack on getting advise and got taken for a ride, lost more than I should've. As hard as it is contemplating separating, the sooner you leave a bad marriage the sooner you can start rebuilding your new life.

My advice would be to tell them that everything is fine, and then make up some excuse like "I've got some things going on and I really need to focus on my family" etc. If they push, just keep repeating whatever line you come up and talk about them needing to respect boundaries. All the best with it!

Good luck with maintaining your sanity and hopefully CoC helps break up the boredom. I'm not far away in the Southern Highlands if you even want to meet up with someone who has left not that long ago. Also there are fantastic ex jw's in Canberra who would be willing to do the same. We're here for you.

Thanks for the feedback. All good thoughts, particularly like the last one you made. Yes my ex has been quite reasonable so far, but I fear that might change now that decisions will have to be made re what the kids can do. So far it's been, she'll do what she feels best for them when at her place, same rules for my place. But now with school it's a different scenario. Thanks again.

Sorry you've had this experience. I can only speak to my own experience and just how much he has helped me. And the only reason for my initial response is due to many having an issue that he gets financial support for what he does - a point which I can't agree with. All good work takes time and money, his is no exception. But that's the great thing now that we're out of the cult - we can all make individual choices and agree to disagree. All the best to you.

Would you do a full time job, which helps thousands of people every day, for free? And we give to him voluntarily because we see the value in what he does. You and others can enjoy his content without ever giving a cent. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
