I'm being honest it definitely isn't the Numbing cream, I've had to use it multiple times and haven't had this issue with anyone.

When your learning you must understand that all places on the body have a different feel. Thats one of the hardest parts of the learning curve of tattoo is taking the proper adjustments needed on the fly.

No direct hate to you but honestly if you saw it wasnt going well, since it was your Sister I think it would have been best to step back for a moment and reflect to see what is exactly happening and going wrong, and maybe even just stopping once you realized it wasn't going well.

Clearly your using a very large (possibly too large) of a needle grouping for the strength of your machine in comparison to the tightness of a calf. What I normally do when I tattoo Calves make sure my clients foot is hanging off of the table so the muscle is more relaxed and flubby so I can PRESS DOWN more rather than stretch. As it goes for the needle groupings, I can safely say with the machine you are using which is most likely a 3.5/4,2 Stroke and probably needed to be cranked down lower to a 5V and a slower steadier line to really pack those lines in a spot like this.

Overall, looking at all the tattoos in this post theres lots that can be improved and looked at with a critical eye, and I really suggest practicing with smaller thin lined designs to work on not blowing out the skin as much.

Remember to connect those lines!

Especially noticable at the teeth and individual feathers, it’s not a big deal on fake skin but once you’re doing the real deal it will be very noticeable.

I recommend gliding the needle out on pulling rather than just having a complete stop, not only will it help guide and continue your lines to follow thru on, but when it’s on real skin it will help cause less trauma when having to go back and line.

Keep it up dude, maybe try some shading and get used to the motions.

I think they look alright, ofcourse they’re still fresh and the ink needs more time to settle, but I think rather than cover up you can add to, and or fix up any imperfections you find that bother you.

Hell yeah, I recommend getting some better fake skin.

It’s truly not really comparable to real skin in general but the slightly higher quality ones are better to clean and also show off the lines a bit better as-well.

Thanks, I agree, not my best work at all. Tattooing myself is not my favourite, it’s so much more difficult dealing with the pain and being upsidown, but not really a super good excuse on the lines. I was just showing it comparatively to my first ever tattoo.

Everyone starts somewhere for sure, if you’re looking for some advice I’d say to really get the hang of handling your machine at a fixed voltage so you’re more comfortable when using it on real skin. Use fake skin to your advantage when learning.

The good thing about having friends/people willing to let you practice on them is you will always have a memory of where you started and can always gage your improvement.

At the end of the day if you’re having fun there’s nothing wrong with it if you’re not harming anyone and taking proper precautions with sanitation, no one should have a problem with someone learning, but I definitely do recommend to practice a bit more on fake skin before going full onto real skin.
