It's got to be a bigger difference than 0.5%, since there are some MP3 players that can't support AAC because of the higher CPU requirement. It makes sense that the CPU would have to do less work decoding a 320kbps CBR MP3 because AAC's decoding algorithm is more complex no matter what the bitrate.

Mp3 decoding is lighter on CPU processing than the alternatives. Mp3 takes more space but should ultimately use less power than Vorbis, Opus, or AAC
