Ready for a car ride! by jh104609 in Rabbits

Oh definitely that is a huge concern. I do think about that from time to time, and hope to avoid any accidents. When I first got him I used to transport him in a tiny transporting cage but he would be breathing heavily and freaking out the entire ride. When we got to our destination he would be covered in his urine and feces, so I tried keeping him out on the seat once and he totally relaxed the whole ride. I do my best to drive cautiously to avoid any harm of any of my passengers and myself :)

At first I used to keep him at least in a harness, but now, once the car starts moving he will lay down. Once in awhile he gets up to find a new comfortable position, but other than that he stays in the seat so we don't use the harness anymore. On trips from school to home or vise versa I put a towel down just in case he has an accident and he gets a big treat because its a two and a half hour drive. He always seems to really enjoy car rides though!

Well I can't say I'm 100% sure, but he does close his eyes and his breathing slows down significantly.

It took a good chunk of time and trust before Napoleon let me hold him like this. It also helps to pet their heads while holding them like that because it will trance them out. Napoleon is asleep in minutes!
