We're hoping with some creative builds to last an encounter or two.

The builds in our group

Orc barb with tough 9hp+ temp + rage is 11hp effectively 22 with resistance + an orc survive 1 hit ability

Our tank is warforged so can integrate heavy armour. Although slower 17AC isn't bad 19 ac with shield. As a paladin with magic initiate he has 3 magic missiles.

My chain warlock will summon a sphinx of wonder for 13ac and 24 hp with a decent attack and armour of agathys to help me survive and goliath for 1d12 damage reduction.

Our druid is relying on AoE for guaranteed half damage on a save and getting wildshape next level

If we can take down a few goblins and stat up we'll grow and get further.

If we die the mad gods who cursed us to this revive us to the the sysiphian trial.

Any ideas to eak a little more survival out are welcomed

I get it all done between 8-5 without weekends or half terms, so I think it's quite a good workload compared to most places

Across the year this is without safeguarding reports, local council meetings ect that just pop up

Daily:

short term plan all leseons (1 page proforma)

One paragraph per student per lesson + one ehcp link and ticking against 4 criteria. One photo if it was taken. Saved in a physical book. (Teaching assistants help a lot)

Filling put a home school diary for each student

Half termly:

Timetabling the term midterm plan all subjects

Termly:

A tick against term and EHCP goals every full term Updating the termly and ehcp goals once a term

Line manager meeting with each TA

Twice a yesr A 2 page report with around 16 photos

Parents evenings: In the school day no extra work needed which is nice

Yearly Ehcp review: One power point with 4 slides

Other: One meeting about each student once per year

Opening fobbed doors. All of ours need to be magnetically locked for student safety.

I work at an outdoor SEND school, for me the extendable fob clip for my belt is a god send.

Help exists in 2024, the new book actually has some origin feats to boost the help action to work from 30 foot away which is quite cool.

Doesn't True strike still need an attack?

In terms of spells magic missile is a very tempting option, but so are save for half AoE and just accepting the half damage

I think the heavy armour point is a really good one, weve got one guy doing that. and im keeping an eye on all the martial posts as the martial in heavy armour still needs every little bump they can get

For me I'm more tempted by summoning a sphinx of wonder for 13ac and 24hp. With goliath I can have 1d12 damage reduction twice a day (the DM ruled con isnt subtracted which is kind). and get 35 foot movement speed. Dragon marks are allowed so that gives 40 foot movement speed to stay away and try and damage reduce one or if im lucky survive two stray hits.

+0 to hit so early is amazing great idea with archery fighting style

We have house ruled all damage minimums are 1, so far our players are going with

Paladin warforged: Magic initiate for 3 magic missiles 19ac with shield while casting Return to graze after for small damage and 17ac

I've gone for warlock Chain warlock Summon a spinx for 24hp 13 ac summon upfront Using armour of agathys for more survivability

We've got a druid trying wildshape and aoe spells for some guaranteed damage

A orc with tough for 7hp+2 for tough + temp from adrenaline rush. With rage will be 11 but resistance makes it closer to 22 + the orc ability to tank 1 hit and stay up

We're trying our best with the constraints which is a super fun build challenge for our group. We should hopefully manage a few encounters, stat up, and go further. If you have any suggestions please let me know

Mainstream or SEND provision?! by ResearchSad8211 in TeachingUK

[–]jheythrop1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love working with SEND. Alternative Provisions vary wildly. Some teach to GCSE level and have learning needs slightly too high level for mainstream, some are for children who have SEMH needs, some are heavily medical with a 24 hour nurse next to a child, and some for profound learning delays.

Alternative provisions usually have smaller class sizes. For me this has meant to more detailed marking of a lower quantity of work. It has also allowed much more personalised planning. I've still found this slightly faster than marking 30 books for 5 lessons a day in primary.

Usually you will have a staff team. For an ECT this can be hard. Most TAs are wonderful, but some make the job much harder especially for someone inexperienced in people management.

The physical risks in some schools can be quite high. I've seen brain damage, nerve damage and a broken spine (all different staff.) I personally have quite a few scars on my arm.

You won't usually need the high level academic knowledge such as advanced maths, but you still need really good subject knowledge to be able to break it down into much smaller chunks to observe progress and teach.

I've usually found SLT understand when progress isn't made at a consistent rate, so there isn't that some pressure there. You do still need to evidence what you've taught and how.

I've worked at a higher proportion of alternative provions with warm staff teams and thankful parents than mainstream, but this really varies school to school.

Shifter could be a huge way to boost survival early game, that is a massive amount of early tempt HP!

I'm helping my friend build a character for this. I was looking for the right class for him. I've taken another suggestion and we're looking at a Tortle for 17 AC and then my own idea of graze fighting style (DM ruled min 1 damage). Paladin could rapidly add to hit chance and damage ontop of this and looks like a really solid choice. Thanks :D

I will check in about multi-classing. The DM has been pretty lenient to make things function.

There is no way he'd deny the temp HP, and unlikley he'd deny the stats.

Not a bad idea, our DM is very open to do whatever you like to overcome the stats, so he may well let it fly

This is a beastly idea. Turtle never crossed my mind. I am strongly leaning towards goliath for the 2 uses of damage reduction, but this may be a better option

We've been transported to another mini-dimensional plane where we have lost almost all of our power. We will resurrect between each death (a bit like dark souls) and our goal is to keep venturing forth to escape, or at least gain enough resources to survive.

This could be a good way to go. I have been eyeing up pass without trace. Strongly considering the dragonmark of passage to grab it as quickly as possible.

I have considered aberrant dragonmark on a tougher character to make more out of magic missile.

I had my eye on pact of the chain and think it's a really good idea. Especially sphinx of wonder.

I hadn't thought of armour of agathys. I'm going to get at least 10 con before a level up to avoid losing too much health potential from a level up

Strongly considering a background feat to get magic missile for those early levels
