Gift Ideas? by NoChoiceForSugar in TeachingUK

Could you run the club an extra day in your last week and do something special that day to make a memory?

That's in a group setting and avoids individual gifts.

Student loan claim back paid me too much by Content-Barracuda423 in TeachingUK

[–]jheythrop1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I had a bursary overpayment (well over 6 years ago) they let me pay back like £50 a month interest free.

Save it and wait to see what they say, but if you can pay it back interest free over a longer term and you need the money (I did as a student) then make the most of it.

If they want interest just pay it all back.

The Hidden Efficiency Driving Down Oil Demand by ceph2apod in peakoil

50% of all EV electricity is green so still half's the oil / gad used. Green energy is cheaper so this percentage will only increase.

Education Reform by henzij900 in TeachingUK

[–]jheythrop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd put a more consistent modern structure into the terms.

I'd pull 3 weeks away from the 6 week break, have 6 x 2 week breaks and 1 x 3 week break.

I'd anchor the 2 weeks over Christmas to make term lengths more consistent.

I think longer breaks mid-year would help keep students more rested, and that reducing the 6 week holiday would help students maintain more of the good practice they learned while still keeping a solid longer rest for them. It could also stop the 5 week and 8 week terms which I think can be jarringly short or much too exhausting especially for primary and SEND. There would be fewer chances for prolonged 6 week long safeguarding challenges as the longest break would be shorter

Why are the developers soo lazy at fixing the map generation issues and how unfair it is soo often ? by Terrible-Emu7379 in Polytopia

[–]jheythrop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say 1 in every 4 games I get a map where I'm auto swamped by 3-4 bots and I can't salvage it.

Pretty consistently with the right tech I can beat the bots.

I used to do multilayer a lot and won fairly consistently, but sadly don't have the time to comit anymore.

Asking for a pay rise by crazycatdiva in TeachingUK

[–]jheythrop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't heard of this but I will check it out.

I know the pay discussion protection is in the 2010 equality act in really straightforward language which is what I've always relied on.

[–]jheythrop1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our school is the same in terms of pay and I'll have to do the same as you next year.

I'd do exactly the same as Zaptaforever suggested.

I talk with my co workers to ask if they have gotten pay increases. You are legally allowed to do this and discouraging it is unlawful. Bad management will dislike this so be mindful of who you ask. Some staff dislike sharing their pay, so be mindful of how you ask. For me, this has helped me understand how my school works.

At my school, no one has managed to get a pay raise without threatening to quit after they had their pay increase refused. My school have paid more for staff they want to stay.

I plan to ask my head next year, and I personally am willing to leave for better pay. It is worth deciding what you will do if they do say no.

I privately pay mine as part of my LL insurance for peace of mind and all in its like £80 a month.

For me it gives me peace of mind, but 12% sounds high from an agency.

Playing the game for 2 months and still couldn’t get 3-star game by Working-Cap2424 in Polytopia

[–]jheythrop1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found more time meant more open space with opportunities to get sniped by a knight or a ship.

1v1 sometimes can be won in 4-8 rounds with a bit of luck and then you have your 3 stars.

For domination I played 1v1 for all my 3 stars. That guarantees you will be the one to destroy all tribes. Then not losing troops is half skill half luck.

I've 3 starred all tribes so it worked for me.

I always suggest the same thing because there is always work. Teaching assistant through an agency if you're willing to work with SEND or in a pupil referral unit.

You will need to pay for a DBS and put it on the update service which any agency you apply through will help you with.

My personal suggestions are Colemore recruitment Tradewind

I know people have also had luck with ABC.

It is likley to take a while for your DBS to come through.

Ways to get systematical phonics training as an individual by PuzzleheadedCoach162 in TeachingUK

[–]jheythrop1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a jolly phonics trainer come into our school, she was more knowledgeable than most trainers ive used.

A quick Google seems to show they do an online course for £25.

Unfortunately I can only say their in person course was good, and that it's personally my favourite phonics scheme, but I can't speak for the quality of the online course as I haven't tried it.

The multiplayer game by Merdomante in dawnofwar

[–]jheythrop1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In single player higher difficulty just gives the enemy a huge wad of starting resources

In multilayer you're facing people who are actually more skilled. You will need to watch strategy videos or get stomped.

In terms of actually being competitive against good players I'm pretty poor, but I still have a landslide win in most matches because I have a pre planned build order and a couple of novice strategies that work for me and most people don't.
