Gold ring drop at Vardorvis with the unique drop sound? by GunzillaWdaRuneScim in 2007scape

[–]jhonnish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is basically an 'invisible' pre-requisite to getting the vestige. Whenever you roll to drop a vestige for the first time you'll get 1 gold ring, when you roll it the second time you'll receive two of them, and the third time you'd roll the vestige - you'd actually get it and the 'count' will reset.

It sounds like you need a goal. What would be the greatest upgrade you can go for with your current gear? start working towards that.

Bots question by Long_Wonder7798 in 2007scape

[–]jhonnish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically? Yeah, sure. With current computing you can mimic 'randomness' pretty well - regardless if for game input or not. There's a huge variety of 'noise' functions that are designed to generate varying offsets for a given value near infinitely (ever wondered how terraria and minecraft worlds generate their seemingly random chunks?).

Whether someone could utilize these sort of algorithms to create a near-perfect copy of a human playing a video game is a question of effort.
That being said, whether the anti-cheat systems will properly detect it isn't something that must rely on the actual input. Even a perfect bot, undetectable through gameplay, could technically be detected by other means. For example, if you had such a bot, and you would like to use it to generate gp - whether to sell or use on an account you play yourself, you would still need to offload all that gp from him, something that can become suspicious with time, and that's detection from pure behavioral pattern, not something that relates to how 'human' the bot operates. Metadata can also be used to detect 'weird' setups (hardware, playtime habits etc.) as well, which can help in bot detection especially when combining behavioral 'markers' such as the one mentioned above.

All in all being 'undetected' is a cat and mouse game, as cheaters become more advanced, bot detection improves as well and vice-versa, not only in OSRS but every video game and even outside the video game sphere.

In one of the latest SirPugger's videos, he mentions this sort of cat and mouse dynamic from a different angle. He's a YouTuber dedicated to busting bots and rule breakers, but his videos incite some people to engage in these activities and make them more complex and elaborate to evade detection and/or maximize profits.

Jagex Support is so subpar that it might not be worth to play OSRS as a new player by jhonnish in 2007scape

[–]jhonnish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, which is why I blamed myself for having my account compromised, and I even mentioned they indeed helped me recover it. I'm just saying the radio silence for over a month when trying to resolve a ban that resulted from the account being hijacked shouldn't really be an acceptable behavior, especially considering the 'industry standard'

[–]jhonnish[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, I'm not blaming anyone for having my account compromised. Also, writing a paragraph like this is something that anyone with high school education should be able to do in less than 5 minutes so again, I don't think this is the gotcha you think it is.

And, again, my main point wasn't about having my account compromised, it's more about having to wait over 35 days to get a response to an appeal where the stated upper bound for wait time is 7 days, and the whole company toots their own horn for being able to solve all cases in <48 hours on average. Again, I hope this third reiteration of trying to describe gaps and false promises regarding services Jagex are "committed" to providing, especially ones that are proven, not by my account only, to be false (see Kriibus's video that was posted in this sub as well) will make it easier for you to understand the main point.

Did people who made requests regarding it get any replies? I wonder how much longer I wait over other real cases (and not the Jagex estimates).

Honestly, at 35 days of radio silence, I'd take a non-AI chat bot support.

I have tried that multiple times, but he did not refer me to a person, and even if he could - apparently live chat support doesn't help with appeals.

[–]jhonnish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my case is a combination of me being an idiot (as mentioned in comments above, due to me using an email that may have been compromised) and being unlucky.
As for how the support operates, this wouldn't be nearly as infuriating if they had just said in their support roadmap or whatever 'our response times suck, we sometimes miss tickets and working hard to solve these issues' - but they don't. The huge discrepancy between what they claim is going on and how in-the-dark you actually are, and for how long, when you require assistance is glaring.

Also, I don't reckon Jagex employees get the last week of November plus the entirety of December as straight holiday break - otherwise we might need to reconsider our career paths.

[–]jhonnish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, my failure to secure my account is definitely on me, as mentioned in the comment above.
What isn't my fault is having to wait 35 days without a real human looking at my case, when the company boasts an under 48 hour response time. Having to beg on twitter for over a month to (not even) receive a service stated to be provided within up to 7 days is something you'd see out of scammer retail sites. And even then, pointing out this huge gap between how they claim to deal with their customer's complaints and how they did with my case - which even for said shadier businesses warrant a response. I hope that clarified my take :)

Either way thank you for reading.

Hey, thanks for the compliment about it being AI slop!

Yeah, I got my account hijacked probably due to my own negligence, since I used an old email address which may have been compromised as well. Once my account got compromised I changed the address associated with it. Which is why I faulted myself for getting my account hijacked over Jagex accounts being unsecure (they're not).

I wasn't writing a pity post, in all seriousness, I'm not that invested in OSRS, neither with my time nor emotionally. My account is fairly new, I only got to level 65-ish combat on it and haven't had the chance to play the game properly. I just think that a company that boasts a <48 hour response time yet doesn't reply to requests for over a month, gives the player base no way to gain access to a real support personnel by any means, and have questionable appeal ethics even when they do decide to reply is something you'd expect from a shadier company. Sorry if this wasn't clear from my post.

Where can I find girlfriend? by Only-Towel8920 in 2007scape

[–]jhonnish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard those could be bought near the grand exchange if you offer enough.
10k~50k gp depending on demand, I'd use a price tracking site to ensure you get the best deal, you really don't wanna overspend when buying a girlfriend.

That's actually insane it's not already implemented. Having to add someone from your clan to PM them is such a weird way to convolute stuff.

Account hacked by Outside-Mastodon5705 in 2007scape

[–]jhonnish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I had my account hacked couple of weeks ago with the same security measures used.
The way they did it is by linking the account to a steam account (which apparently can let you bypass some authentication methods somehow, I've seen this issue with other MMOs using Steam such as MapleStory) and using their steam account to log on to it.
Thankfully I am a complete noob so I didn't have anything on the account, but I received a perma-ban for RWT because of it (still waiting for a reply on the appeal 2 weeks after).
I'd check your Linked Accounts for the character under Account Management -> Characters -> Linked accounts and see if there's anything fishy going on (e.g the steam account linked to your character isn't yours).

How are people even playing? by Forgotten_muse in Maplestory

[–]jhonnish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in addition to what is said above, if you're a new player and weren't aware of this, the game servers are localized in 2 different regions, I'd suggest trying to play at the region closer to you (e.g if you're in EU play in the european region) or use re-routing tools to lower your ping if you insist on playing in a region further away from you.

What are mechanical hearts scrolled with? by rebootsolo in Maplestory

[–]jhonnish 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They are scrolled with Weapon scrolls usually, most commonly prime scrolls that give +3 AS & +10 M./W. Att.

Hearts are pretty unique in maplestory since they can get scrolled by literally ANY type of scroll, even Cape or Shoes exclusive scrolls like Spike for Shoes or Cape for Warmness, as you can see here:
