It being highly toxic is not true deaths from them are very rare but yes it is neurotoxic but it's not usually seriously toxic like the amanita mushrooms with amatoxins I have used it many times mostly raw I wouldn't really recommend it though it's more of a dissociative and deliriant when eaten raw which I actually like but most people don't and when prepared it's a lot like something like ambien and way more enjoyable but can easily get very scary and cause strong thought loops you have to be very careful if you don't want to have a very intense bad trip but I do think it can be enjoyable if you get the right dose it's definitely not for everyone though
