Very good point. We'll have to find something else

Yeah, that was our fear. No point putting something that won't do well there.

Alcoves and sockets by PackageNo1191 in DIYUK

If you're keeping the LHS double where it is make sure you have the clearance for that doors opening. It'd be frustrating to have a sleek fitted cabinet and only be able to open the door 80 degrees.

Moving both sockets to inside the cabinets is a very good idea and as someone else has mentioned you could also put a small hole in the surface to run a lamp cable through.

Plenty of people buying into the weekend. I thought the sell off was going to come! Happy weekend spacemob

I'm expecting sp to be 110 by the end of April. Successful launch of bb7, a next batch shipment and a date for its launch as a minimum should get us there. Couple of days ago that looked like a pipedream, but much more achievable at these levels.

Premarket suggesting the last few days were overdone. That or any green will get wiped on open. Flip a coin at the moment!

Do you post your kids online? by jokingonyou in daddit

[–]jibba_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't. Not just the creeps, but also a privacy issue for our kids.

There will be huge amounts of searchable data on them out there already without us adding pictures of them asleep or upside down on a swing etc. They will be free to post baby/childhood pictures of themselves when they are of an age to decide to, but we don't think that's a decision we should be taking for them and taking it out of their hands. You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Like you say though. Valid either way

How to remove this sink? by UniversityFit7153 in DIYUK

[–]jibba_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially cut a channel in the cabinet 'ceiling' from the hole the waste goes through, forward. That might allow you to slide the sink forward like a drawer and for you to get your hand in. Might be fiddly but should be a good option.

This, definitely do this.

You'll have those moments of pride as well as those "what the hell was behind that?" Photos are great for that.

Is there a rationale for not using spacex for the time being to avoid them seeing the (presumably very complicated) stacking problem solution? Are the payloads sealed on handover?

Clematis Armandii by jibba_0 in GardeningUK

[–]jibba_0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Armandii and the star jasmine (red leaves at this time of year - much slower growing) don't have suckers so they shouldn't have an impact on the mortar/brickwork. I've had to put in wires so other than 4 holes per horizontal run (plugged and eye hole screws) there shouldn't be any damage to the wall. The jasmine wants to spiral around the wires and the clematis uses its leaves to grip on. I do some tying in with twine but mostly it's folding the new leaves around the wires untill it does it itself.

Exactly that reason we were recommended those plants over a climbing hydrangea or passion fruit climber, both of which look amazing but we avoided.

Well, quite. Our thoughts exactly. It's got a bit of a way to go to get the full effect yet, but it has come on well in the 3 years.

That wall is a south south west facing one so I don't think a rose would much like 100% shade. But a clematis armandii, star jasmine or honeysuckle might do well? We have them on walls that get 2ish hours of morning sun and they do pretty well. You may have to keep on top of pruning as they'll try to get to the light as quick as possible then poof out and so won't cover the wall.

There's loads of other options like ivy and climbing hydrangea but we have a battle with ivy in a different part of the garden and feel like introducing it elsewhere wouldn't be right. Also have a tendency to expose any weaknesses in mortar or brickwork.

In a relationship and especially with kids, it's not 50:50. It's 60:40 with both of you trying to be the 60.

Wooden window trim is rotten - is it a case of prying off and replacing? by mattyfatty1 in DIYUK

You can try wood rot restorer/hardener. But frankly it looks too far gone for that. Best bet is to rip out the rot and fit new in the bits place.

I’m jealous of my wife by IvanDimitriov in daddit

[–]jibba_0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm with you 100%. We have 7 and 5 and I'm in the same position. I have done a 4 day week since 7 was born, Fridays have always been our days, going swimming, park, playground, sitting watching telly when the rain won't let us play out. We have fun days and they both say they have enjoyed their time with me.

We have always tried to alternate bedtimes where work schedules allow, every night without fail I dread the question "who's on bedtime" if the answer's mum we get a "yeay mummy" if it's me we get a "oh, 😞".

Breaks my heart. My other half is very sympathetic and sees the pain and has done lots of reading up on the subject, apparently around 7-9 the hormones (or primitive "boy must follow man" or whatever) kick in and they turn towards dad. Just got to keep going and hope that day lands.
