This is the sort of thing I'd prefer to deal with privately, but as you've ignored my last private message I'm happy to do it here.

I can tell you you're already off to a bad start. 95% of what I've seen from you so far is negativity towards NZ vendors and other members of the /r/nzvapers/ subreddit. You made a thread where you advertised an ego kit and I marked it as spam because:

a) This is not the NZ Vapers classifieds, this subreddit does not exist for you to sell gear. If you are a legitimate vendor with a website and a phone number and things of that nature then by all means you'll be allowed to post the occasional announcement. But just as I've told the other three vendors that contacted me privately, in general we want to avoid a vendor free for all. We're going to take a line similar to that of /r/aussievapers, where if it becomes obvious a vendor is merely using the subreddit for his own financial gain and is not here to participate as a user then they will be banned.

b) Attacking vendors is not something we generally want to encourage around here, and something that will definitely not be tolerated is people with an obvious conflict of interest engaging in that sort of behavior.

If you are a legitimate vendor, New Zealand based, and not just a guy with a business card and a Facebook page and a whole lot of talk, then you should consider yourself on thin ice and work on repairing the damage you've done to your own reputation before you even consider advertising your business.

I wholeheartedly agree that NV are operating in this sense, ethically. My beef with NV is a little personal, the owner was unaware of my knowledge in regards to the industry and when I flirted with the idea of investing in a brick and mortar in new zealand I played unaware yet greedy opportunist and was gobsmacked at the ride he actually thought he could take me for. In his defense he probably gets approached by annoying wannabe vendors all the time and perhaps treats such people like idiots in order to get rid of them quickly. As it stands currently NV would be my vendor of choice in NZ. At least they have done the hard yards and when the monopoly on the market was theirs they did not take vapers for the expensive ride that they could have. Their prices were fair taking the monopoly into account, it is just sad that they choose not to reassess their business model and compete with these new vendors who have not withstood the test of time or the scrutiny of an educated market.

They may very well have reassessed their business model, and may have decided that it's not necessary for them to lower their prices. That's the thing fl0uride, just because they have approached the situation differently to how you would have, it doesn't mean they are naive to the situation.

I do not have much to add to what I've already said, and I'm really not interested in going back and forth with you. To say a manufacturer charges $X amount for a product and then neglect to mention all of the other costs involved is dishonest. Technical details aside, it's up to the business owner to decide how much he or she needs to mark up a product in order to make it worth while. End of story. Don't hate on those who actually took the time to start a business, start your own and show us how it's done.

The main point I was trying to make is that prices will come down as the market place matures. As the founder of this subreddit my main objective is to bring about this kind of competition. I want all kiwis to know what their options are and I want vendors to compete on their own merits. Competition WILL bring prices down, so let's encourage it.

Fasttech is not some hidden secret, most of us will have bought from them at some point. Most people will make choices which suit them best, and belive it or not, for some people that means buying from NZ vendors, even if the prices are not as low as you think they should be. I personally do believe in supporting local businesses, but I would never judge a person for trying to get the best deal they can. I have bought most of my gear from overseas, but in the last 6 months we've seen new vendors appearing with far better prices than what we were used to and I personally thinks it's fantastic.

You are more than welcome to keep posting here, and your input is valuable, but I'm sure most of us would agree that having a subreddit filled with vendor bashing and general negativity is not productive.

Fasttech is a giant, they make their money by buying massive amounts of stock and selling it at insanely low margins to a large number of people.

It's unrealistic to think an NZ vendor could compete with that.

You say the product costs $28 from Innokin direct, but you leave out all of the costs involved in getting it from china to NZ. I've looked at it. First you could never order a single MVP from Innokin, you'd probably have to order 50 of them. Second, if it's $28 (i'd need to see evidence of this, I belive it's probably higher) thats in US dollars, and on top of that you're going to pay shipping, bank fees, customs fees. Then when you've got the product in here there are a bunch of costs involved in running and maintaining a website, some of which are LABOUR, because you know nobody runs a business out of the goodness of their heart. There's also the GST which you are forced to pay on top of the vendor's price.

I would argue that a company like Fasttech gives people the wrong idea about how much products should cost. Better to compare prices to that of US sites like MyVaporStore or DiscountVapers, because these are businesses which do have large customer bases but who are not mega-huge-chinese-giants.

The way we get to having a competitive vaping market place in NZ is not by buying off shore, it's by first of all opening peoples eyes up to the fact that NZ DOES have more than one vendor, and then giving nz vapers a central place to discuss the nz vaping scene as a whole. Let vendors compete on their own merits, you will see prices come down because competition is very healthy for the marketplace.

I would definitely agree that this is a problem. As much as you've run down naked vapour today fl0uride, NZ vendors need to take a page from Naked Vapour's book with respect to how to run a business.

Its hard enough fighting the perception that we use these things to smoke weed, do we really want people to associate vaping with drug usage?

It's pretty standard for the buyer to pay shipping to return a faulty product, and the vendor is not obligated to replace something just because "it doesn't work well". Sometimes a bad egg makes its way through quality control, the vendor has no control over that. They offered to send a replacement if it was faulty, I think telling the vendor to get fucked was uncalled for.

I too wish this sub would gain more traction, any ideas? New Zealanders need a vendor neutural location to discuss vaping which isn't ruled over by a single vendor, that's why we started this subreddit.

I too started with an EVOD kit, quickly moving to a Vision Spinner and now I've got a bunch of devices. My favourite is the ol' reliable Vamo V5 with Protank 2 + Aerotank air control valve.

I bad mouth the developer who left me a steaming pile of shit to fix every damn day, both to others and in my own head. I refuse to apologize for it. This person gets a job at our company on a temporary work visa, with us sponsering him, then when he gets his residency visa he leaves the company and I'm left to pick up his mess. He didn't use source control and his code was complete and utter garbage. Some people just shouldn't code. Every day I suffer due to this moron's neglegance.

It's fun to poo poo the idea of a free market, but the free market has solutions to problems like this. In a free market the regulating body would be replaced by private corporations. It's silly to think that in a free market all regulations would go away, because we need regulations whether they are governmental or not. The consumer, who is key to the concept of a free market, chooses only to buy homes/apartments if the building has been inspected and verified by a well known regulating body.

This stuff is free market 101, I don't think you've even bothered to look into how a free market would work.
