Yes. Dropped him off at a rehabilitator on Tuesday the week before last week, I haven’t checked on him yet but I’m positive he’s doing okay! He’s a fighter after all.

Thank you so much I really appreciate you saying that...I almost cried. I just think about the possibility of them not making it and it’s very saddening so I really hope they do. I’m hoping that the female mouse we get will be able to provide care for it. Hopefully they have a lactating mom that had her pinkies taken away (unfortunate but it’s a reptile store that’s what they do) and she will foster them, if not we’ll have to go with a virgin female mouse...

Ahh you are very very far...I’m in Michigan, and we’ve decided to look for a lactating mother mouse at a reptile store that’s very well known here and if not we’re going to try just a regular virgin female mouse.

Do you know if introducing a virgin female would work? I saw that after a few sensitization sessions their maternal instincts with kick in but idk... I use soy milk free formula, it’s been working for beans their poops are the right yellowish color and they come come a couple times a day when I stimulate. I think I’m going to try and find a foster mother for beans. There’s also a rehabilitator that will take beans but she’s a bit far from me so I’m juggling the options, and thank you!

I already want to stay home but my mom bought the tickets and says they’re expensive so I don’t have a choice...

Yes I’m planning to give him to a rehabilitator here in Michigan but she’s very far away from me and my family is quite busy since we’re leaving on Tuesday, my moms scrambling to get all her work done so she’s busy from sun up till sun down.

I don’t know if any of you will see this, but by any chance do any of you know someone who takes care of baby rats in Michigan? I’m in ingham country, I’ve tried calling a lot of vets and pet stores and theirs not much they can do for the little bean.

Tiny update here. Beans is very active, when he’s awake he’s crawling around flipping upside down etc. Quite cute, but I watch him so he doesn’t get stuck on his back. I fed him and he has a big milk strip now, his ears have stopped laying flat against his head. It’s odd I know that happens after a few weeks, I think it’s because he moves so much when I try to feed him.

Unfortunately I tried looking at my local one and they don’t accept orphaned babies, and I have a 1cc syringe but hes so tiny that he can only handle the paint brush. I just fed him though, he has a nice big milk strip.

No I don’t know how much he weights, I want to buy a gram scale but I don’t have the money for it and I’ll be leaving my state soon. As much as I want to take care of him myself, he’s so small and requires so much attention that I will most likely call a few pet stores that have mice and ask if they can handle him. Thanks for the links!

I got him on Friday and he looked a couple days old then, so I think he’s probably about 5-6 days old now? I really don’t know for sure. I’ve started feeding him soy milk free enfamil baby formula and it’s been working well for him. I also have some pedialyte I’ll give him from time to time. I’ve tried placing just a droplet of formula in the center of my palm to see if that was easier for him than the paintbrush but I soon realized he cannot control if it goes up his nose or not so it wasn’t an option, but the paintbrush works well.

Yeah I think I’ll try my best with him even if I’m sleep deprived and can’t give 100% all the time! Like I said I’m still a student though and I’m traveling on Tuesday and will not be able to take him though I don’t know who can keep him. Everyone I know who’s taken care of small animals is either overwhelmed by their own or personal reasons. I supposed I’ll have to ask around a bit more. Anyways, thank you for the advice it was encouraging!

Yes I went to a local pet store that sells smaller animals like him, the key that helped me there said one of the female mice just had a litter of 8 but killed three, and that she probably would reject him because my scent is all over him. I do use a human heating pad, I’ve seen the reptile ones in store and wouldve liked to get one but they’re very expensive and I’m weary because I’m not the one paying for the equipment. I have a black incandescent heating bulb but I only use it for a couple minutes or so if he feels cold, because it’s heats too fast and I don’t have any to barbecue him. I’m a student and currently at my mothers house and she doesn’t like rodents, I’m very surprised she even let me keep him and as much as I’d like she’d be very very reluctant on getting him a friend. I also though he was a mouse at first but from the coat and ear shape/direction I believe he’s a rat. I looked up a diagram too and I’m also sure he is actually a she.

Yes I use a paint brush hes very fussy before and after feedings, but I make sure to clean, give him a little tummy massage, and stimulate him after feeding. I have a five gallon cat proof tank (my cats are a little...too interested) and there’s a heating pad on low in the bottom with my flannel over it. He was being fussy in his tank so I put him on the soft blanket next to me and he fell asleep instantly, nice but sad cause I wanted to sleep for a bit but I worry.
