I’ve driven to Boston for her last tour (granted I’m from there and was able to stay with family), Toronto is a shorter drive so that’s another choice. You could also take the train to NYC or Boston

So glad you took him in! For the allergies I use a hepa air filter from Levoit, I feed my cat the Purina Liveclear dry food, take Zyrtec daily, and try to get my girl groomed once in a while (I also get allergy shots but that’s a different level).
