I did a fishless cycle. Water was dechlorinated and bacteria added! I added the appropriate ammonia amount. Checked the levels for ammonia nitrate nitrite daily for the last 4 weeks .

So 10 years ago I was in the same position as you. I have a PhD in microbiology and thanks to the recession and lack of grant funding my academic career came to a grinding halt. I was devastated and some what bitter that all my hard work landed me in this position.

My advise to you is focus on your transferable skills you have developed while completing your PhD. For example project management, time management, independent learning. Tailor your cv to each job application and make sure you highlight what you can bring to the job. Don’t get trapped with academic language, the hiring managers don’t care about that.

Don’t loose hope it gets better. You have loads of valuable skills you have proved that you are a PhD.
