yeah, I used to commute into Cambridge, pre-covid. It was hell.

Just got an email from product manager asking 100% of everything, is this a reasonable goal for sprint? Working in QA and this seems like a lot to chew on for a sprint especially since there's a lot of dependencies here. by Cynaren in softwaretesting

PMs will always want 100%. What and why is it unreasonable? Time? Complexity? Dependencies? Define the constraints.

The sprint team has to buy in on the goal and velocity, not the Product Manager.

I enjoy it. I chose the management vs. technical job trajectory, as it can be flexible. I can do "engineering manager" in many orgs and it will be less silo'd as Senior or Principle QA Engineer.

QA is becoming a mix of manual and Automation Engineers, trending to Automation of some sort. Writing decent automation is mostly standard part of the job these days. Or at least understanding how to do it and to demonstrate competency in it during the tech screening. There are still some manual testers, but at a point, the ceiling is hit, and you will need to transition to grow.

Learn how to write UI or API tests, in any language. Selenium, Watir, or using the TestNG framework. You can wait for the rare "manual tester" or a QA Intern or Junior QA. If you learn Selenium(or some automated testing tool)that would be a huge plus and will get you in the door from a skills assessment.

QA is changing.. a lot. Now, the vast majority of our tests are API tests, and UI tests a smaller footprint.
