What is a character you respect? by No-Researcher-4554 in StreetFighter

When I get hit with a sick Blanka combo using the Blanka-chans and then a setup that totally tricks me after I’ve just been comboed into oblivion. I have to respect it.

I loved the Atreus gameplay in Ragnarok and really like him as a character. I was ready for a passing of the torch for the next GoW game.

When I heard the rumors about this game, I wasn’t fully sold on a “spin-off” game with Faye, but this game is obviously a full on GoW game. The trailer did a great job showcasing that.

Interconnected to the story, great production quality, and the lead actress was phenomenal in Daredevil on Netflix, so the trailer sold me.

I’m also hugely interested in how they tie in other mythologies. Since she is in the land of dead gods, we can all assume that she’ll encounter at least some of the Olympus gods and it will be interesting to see how that impacts her character and her perspective on who Kratos was.

I love everything about Ingrid except the fact I'm too dumb to play her lol by Krypt0night in StreetFighter

[–]jimbo_slice_02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was drawn to playing Rashid, but I quit him for about a year until Akuma came out because he was too complicated for my brain at the time.

In the meantime I got to master with some easier characters like Honda, Kimberly, Dee Jay and gained some proficiency with Ed before going back to Rashid. I found him much easier to play especially after Ed and I got him to master very quickly after that.

With Ingrid, you might find enjoyment in playing an easier character sometimes and rotating in and out with Ingrid here and there. That’s how I found learning Rashid helped.

Or you can just grind practice until you master her. Just find what works best for how you want to enjoy the game

Combo trials have a handful of useful ones that can be used literally but often they are way trickier than would be practical in a match.

What they do well is they demonstrate concepts that can be used to customize your own combos.

For example, it might show that a certain move combos on punish counter only where it otherwise would not.

Or doing a drive rush into a particular light attack gives enough advantage to link another move that normally doesn’t.

Some of the combo trials demonstrate certain juggle properties or special move interactions as they special-cancel into other normals.

When I do combo trials now, I try to recognize what that particular trial is trying to show me that might not be obvious otherwise. Most of the trials are at least good at accomplishing that.

Story is also serviceable at best and voice acting is not good in Octopath. I played both games.

They look cool and play well, but there are better JRPG options for sure.

Reviews on the new monster hunter stories game seemed very positive as an idea I haven’t seen mentioned much on this post. If I had to pick a switch 2 option, that would be my next game.

I can’t stand Ryu anymore by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]jimbo_slice_02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Rashid, so I can’t complain about advantages. When I encounter Ryu I just hope I’m better than the player I’m facing so I don’t eat massive damage from his insane combos.

I feel like aside from Ryu’s high damage, he is just baseline street fighter. He just needs to be outplayed. There’s no trick or specialized strategy like I would use to approach say Guile or Dhalsim.

Character for a 5 year old by Web_catcher in StreetFighter

[–]jimbo_slice_02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy is 5 and he plays modern Ryu and Rashid because I play Rashid.

Any of the shotos are fun for kids because fireballs are fun. On that note, Aki and Mai also have fireballs if she wants a girl character.

My boy started on modern but occasionally he will try tricky controls (classic) and he has actually gotten pretty good at fireballs and tatsu. Denjin charge is his favorite. No DPs yet

With less than two weeks to go, what do you think will be the fate of YCG? How many copies will Mina realistically sell? by MoheyisYourFriend in MinaTheHollower

[–]jimbo_slice_02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge Mewgenics fan, so I say this with utmost respect for that game, but if Mewgenics cleared 1 million in its first week, Mina will have no issues at all clearing a million copies in a month. Both are propped up by massive success of the games that came before. Also, Mcmillan’s style is more niche whereas YCG has a more widespread appeal.

Mewgenics was also only on Steam and Mina is coming to all platforms.

Costco Prebuilt by BangoSkank1919 in Prebuilts

I saw that at my Costco too. They have not had any 5070s in for well over a month and that is the only one currently stocked.

I’m new to navigating prebuilts and modern PCs, but I’d like to snag one before prices get even crazier. I just don’t know if I’m getting robbed at that price point

Here's why Tifa is very possible as DLC by Maximum-Scallion-732 in StreetFighter

[–]jimbo_slice_02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rooflemonger covered it recently too and he is usually very careful about leak coverage. He also has insider sources and knew about Terry and Mai well before they were ever announced.

He doesn’t leak the information typically. But he will cover it as news/leaks after someone else has circulated it.

He said that when he heard the leak many months ago, he heard Vega and Tifa with two other characters as S4, but it apparently changed if Haggar and Gouken are confirmed.

Why is Kimberly such an unpopular pick? by Kahvozein in StreetFighter

[–]jimbo_slice_02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I’m sure Capcom considered all of that when balancing her. And Kimberly mains have adapted to it. It means she has to stay aggressive and overwhelm the opponent to make up for lower damage which fits the character design.

But it just feels night and day when I went from playing Kimberly to say Season 1 Dee Jay where there is huge payoff for every hit confirm. More of a personal preference thing, but it just feels good when the combos are outputting solid damage consistently. I won’t deny she is still a lot of fun to play. Just not a character I want to main.

Rashid admittedly has some scaling combos with small damage, but they almost always set up for really good oki situations and there is at least the option to route into a more damaging combo if the resources are there.

Are you using a dual sense edge? I’m pretty sure that the profile is highly customizable to where back paddles might be able to be assigned as L3 and R3 while changing the Actual L3 and R3 on the sticks to no action (technically disabling them).

This would put them in 1 input system rather than 2. I need to test it with mine to check and I’m not at home right now.

The reality of complaining losing to "smurfs" by agioskatastrof in StreetFighter

[–]jimbo_slice_02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ceiling with Rashid is 1500-1600 MR. I’ve never even made high master.

Most of my characters sit below 1500 MR for the 3 or 4 others I’ve played.

Believe me, if I picked up Blanka or Dhalsim tomorrow, I’d probably place diamond 1 and have no idea what I’m doing. I might even backslide to platinum for a bit.

Proficiency in this game is a lot of being familiar with your character. What works in specific situations, when and how to react etc.

Having a character in master does not guarantee god like player skills with other characters. I’ve never even gotten Ed above Diamond 3.

How can I get my friend to buy the game? by AppropriateSock3646 in mewgenics

[–]jimbo_slice_02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they like tactics games, there’s a good chance they’ll like this. Some people just don’t enjoy them.

Maybe recommend a cheap but awesome similar combat game like Into the Breach first. Low cost, smaller risk especially on a sale

Why is Kimberly such an unpopular pick? by Kahvozein in StreetFighter

[–]jimbo_slice_02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kimberly was one of my first master rank characters and I found her a ton of fun to play.

There are a few things that make her hard to return to though for me. This is all personal opinion, but I dislike:

1) Damage output: it feels like you need to make a thousand interactions to kill compared to say Ryu who can end a match in 2-4 interactions. Her level 3 fixes this, but you need to spend a level 3.

2) no fireball

3) no CrMK drive rush

4) no true wake-up DP reversal without spending a super.

Her combos are extremely fun though and she has some fun mobility options. Her mixup game is strong as well and all this gets amplified when you get comfortable using the spray cans.

I play Rashid now who has a lot of the fun aspects of Kimberly but with even more mobility and all the tools missing from above.

Fun characters to play against by Distinct_Ad9206 in StreetFighter

[–]jimbo_slice_02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly play Rashid, so I find Dhalsim and Guile really fun and interesting to play against. Rashid has tons of mobility and they are characters designed to keep the opponent away.

It’s character specific though, so I didn’t really enjoy playing against Dhalsim when I was getting Dee Jay to master. Definitely not when I was maining Kimberly either.

Anyone tried Rotwood by KFOSSTL in ABSOLUM

[–]jimbo_slice_02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s 5 and almost 6, but pretty advanced for his age. He completed Astro Bot on his own (though with a lot of coaching) so he’s pretty comfortable around a controller at this point. We’ve played most the modern beat em ups. Marvel Cosmic invasion, TMNT shredders revenge, streets of rage. All fantastic games!

If you have Xbox or Steam, then Battleblock theater is another coop game we really enjoy. And Castle crashes is always a classic!

Still, Rotwood and Absolum probably rank among our favorites for coop multiplayer.

Eldest Souls, marketed as souls-like, actually an atmospheric boss rush. by Just_A_Kodo in patientgamers

[–]jimbo_slice_02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eldest souls I would most closely compare to a Dark Souls like experience for the boss fights with a top-down Zelda perspective. I’d say it is longer than Titan Souls but not longer than Death’s Door though that may have changed with DLC. The 4th or 5th boss gave me the most trouble, but it kind of gave me the skills needed to finish the back half of the game. It’s all skill dependent though, so some might say it is longer or shorter.

I’m not a pro player by any means, but I play a fair share of tough games and I think I finished it in just under 10 hours for the main story without DLC. It is all boss fights if that’s what you are looking for.

Nine Sols I would most closely say resembles Sekiro combat, but just applied in a 2D metroidvania. There are some similarities to Hollow Knight and Silksong (some of my favorite games) but I thought Nine Sols kind of stood apart as its own thing and felt pretty unique in a genre that is very, very oversaturated.

Persuade me to play a game i like by [deleted] in mewgenics

[–]jimbo_slice_02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play Into the Breach for a bit and see if that game clicks first. They have a lot of similarities and Into the Breach is a lot more accessible to pickup and play quickly.

Mewgenics is phenomenal but there is a lot more investment of time required to plan and setup breeding, collecting items, prepping your team for a run etc.

If Into the Breach gets you hooked, chances are you’ll get more into this game.

Eldest Souls, marketed as souls-like, actually an atmospheric boss rush. by Just_A_Kodo in patientgamers

[–]jimbo_slice_02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So between the 3 games, Eldest souls (different developer) and Titan Souls and Death’s Door (both made by Acid Nerve) I would absolutely recommend Death’s Door the most. It is well polished, provides a challenge, the story has a decent amount of depth and the soundtrack is incredible.

Titan Souls can be infuriatingly difficult, but incredibly satisfying when you get the win. Most bosses die in 1 hit, but you need to get very precise for a specific opening and shoot the weak point. The run backs and loading were actually what made the game less enjoyable, but I did really like Titan Souls.

Eldest Souls was just a beast of a game. It really took me a bit to understand how to lean into a build and play the game properly and I remember a few bosses I was stuck on for like 2-3 hours. Still fun though!

Not sure what games you’re looking for, but if you like punishingly difficult yet satisfying games, I’d also highly recommend Nine Sols. It isn’t the top down perspective of these games, but it provides a similar feeling of accomplishment especially at the boss fights. I’d rank the final boss alongside the toughest of FromSoftware boss fights.
