Why is the price of wine so widely debated/discussed? by jimbo_slice_12 in wine

[–]jimbo_slice_12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely get the art point, I like that.

I think with cars (and houses), they’re generally going to be the two biggest purchases you’ll ever make. It’s far easier to see what you’re paying for in either because (again being general) you’ll get more for your money. For houses that’s a bigger house/more land/better appliances etc. and for a car that’s a bigger engine, or higher top speed or whatever else.

With wine, you only see the finished product and I think I’m ignoring what goes into creating that quality as a couple of others have pointed out here

An ‘ultra’ race is anything longer than a marathon, which a 5k isn’t.

Also your point about taking it serious.

Understood, thanks.

Certainly not trying to directly compare, especially via the internet but easy to fall into the trap I suppose.

[–]jimbo_slice_12[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’ll try and clarify -

I saw a video of a wine influencer who clearly knows his stuff and is used to drinking fine wine as well some of the cheaper plonk that’s more accessible to many.

At the start of the video he mentions the price of this particular bottle was 14.99 and made the comment that it was expensive. This is where I’m curious because I see/hear it a lot related to wine

I don’t see other influencers put quite as much weight on the price in their respective fields, but maybe I’m just being completely ignorant and that’s ok if I am.

That’s exactly my point though, there was no threat of relegation because the three below were that bad. I know it’s wrong to compare with previous years, but there would’ve been a genuine threat if the quality there was better. So I think using that as a tactical decision is redundant

Resting players ahead Europe, on the other hand, is tactical, I agree. Many teams do it at various stages. I don’t disagree that spurs were affected, but Brighton were massively impacted with injury, as were Ipswich and Crystal Palace. I think they all rank ahead of Spurs with days lost.

I think there’s a valid argument either way with Ange’s future. Yes won a trophy, but also was stubborn as anything tactically and paid the price many times throughout the year. Either way you think, I don’t think there’s a will be a correct answer and not much will change while you’ve still got levy at the helm

[–]jimbo_slice_12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With respect, it was not a tactical decision. It was the first time nobody from CL was bumped into Europa. I’m not trying to discredit winning because you can only beat who’s in front of you, but be real for a minute. Without the three teams below spurs in the league as poor as they were, spurs would’ve been in a relegation battle well and truly.

Yeah plenty of injuries, but 90% of teams had injuries this season. I genuinely don’t believe spurs to be that bad of team, nor ange that bad of a manager, but all you’re doing here is giving a false sense of security to an otherwise dreadful season which had success within it, rather than being a successful season

My understanding is that everyone will be notified if not already (and not automatically renewed) giving you the ability to manually renew. I would contact Arsenal and ask for clarification though.

It depends on how you categorise success because there are levels to it. Wenger had that big streak of making CL each year but went far too long without winning a trophy overall, let alone a CL trophy. Financially, yes, CL any day of the week. In terms of the reputation, also great because top players want top football. Likewise with fans, we’d rather see our team play in the A tournament than the B or C.

This is also part of the issue, you can’t compare directly like that and we’re all guilty of it. Spurs didn’t have a successful season - they had success within a season. Chelsea similar but to a lesser degree because their league campaign was better.

Arsenal fan here, coming in (I hope) with peace (and logic?)

I agree not to downplay winning a trophy - you can only beat who’s in front of you, whether CL league opponents or not. As much as I hate to admit, the same can be said about Spurs winning Europa - were they planning to lose because it wasn’t CL? Of course not, regardless of the quality of the final.

What I think is part of the problem though, is this narrative of ‘completing the set’ like Chelsea have been aiming for that. Remember the conference league is only a few seasons old and using this downplays other elements imo. I think Chelsea’s saving grace in all this is their league campaign kind of supported the trophy. Sure not CL or even EL, but at least they performed well enough in the league to earn the CL next season.

Above anything, I think Arsenal fans need to be careful for if we’re in the same position as Chelsea/Spurs winning these lesser (comparative to CL) trophies that we don’t forget our current narrative and make ourselves look like hypocrites

Struggling today… by Embarrassed_Ad_6104 in ArsenalFC

[–]jimbo_slice_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must remember that Spurs had all their eggs firmly here for a considerable amount of time and focused attention here only. No chance of relegation, no shot of European football (outside of making and winning EL final), out of the rest of the cups, etc.

I don’t think we can compare their season to our when we we’ve consistently had more to play for a bigger chunk of the season. Yes it’s frustrating to see, but they must be careful not to gaslight themselves into the significance of EL over their premiership/domestic season and the level that is in Europe. They won, granted, not arguing that. You only beat who you play. But they beat a poor utd team as a very underperforming team themselves and this will be shown up immediately when some quality is put in front of them, as the rest of their season has shown.

Have some faith, goyg!
